Ember was a little nervous when Sapnap showed up to her house. Of course he knew she wasn't in the best financial situation, but would he judge her based on her apartment? Ember hoped the time for judging was past in their friendship.
She also didn't have any weed on her. Plugs were too expensive and risky these days, so Ember resorted back to her cigarettes. Not the best option, but her mind was craving the nicotine anyway.
But Ember's worries were vanquished when she sat down in Sapnap's car. It was nice, or at least nicer than she had ever been in. He didn't say anything about her house, and handed her a joint without further word. It was like he read her mind. It was like he knew what she needed.
Sapnap took them in the opposite direction of the skatepark. It felt weird, like Ember was completely abandoning her routine and her schedule all for some silly boy. But for some reason it also felt right.
The pair pulled into a parking lot aside a large expanse of land. Ember wrinkled her nose while rolling her joint between two fingers. "I don't know, Sap. This looks pretty open. Looks like a nice place to be busted."
Sapnap yanked the key out of the car and tossed it into his pocket. "I never said we were there yet."
He exited and shut the car door, prompting Ember to do the same. From outside, Ember could see much more, and guessed where they were headed. The land was indeed an abandoned public park, littered with old trash that probably served great memories a while ago. Not far in the distance was a little cliff that overlooked the grass, and parking lot they were in.
Sapnap started off towards the cliff. Ember forced herself onwards. She didn't want to change locations, but her body physically needed some sort of drug this late in the night. So she dragged her feet through the grass, urgency and demand burning a hole through her lungs, just as the drugs would soon be doing.
Although the cliff felt so far, the two had arrived in minutes. Ember was confused why Sapnap had wanted to come here, and how they would get atop the tall rock. Sapnap pushed back a bush to reveal a steep stone path, built like chunky stairs to lead them to the final destination.
Ember contemplated nearly everything as she stomped up those grueling steps. But as soon as she reached the top, as soon as she saw the stars clearer, as soon as she felt on top of the world... she knew it was worth it.
Ember stepped dangerously close towards the edge, a small smile creeping up her sleep deprived face.
"Don't fall. That might kill you."
"One could dream," muttered Ember as she took a seat on the cool rock and pulled out her joint. The air was uncomfortably humid, but as soon as Ember got the weed in her system, nothing else mattered.

Once Sapnap and Ember finished smoking, their intolerance was hovering over a threatening high. Risk was all in the fun of it.
"Can I finally show you why I took us here?" asked Sapnap, giggling in the middle of his words.
"You didn't just take me here to smoke?"
Sapnap pushed himself to his feet and dusted the burnt soot of his hands.
"When it gets this late, no one can hear us out here. Watch this."
Ember watched as the boy took a large inhale, and let out a bone rattling shout into the distance. She laughed at him, but he remained unfazed.
"I'm serious," he continued. "It feels amazing. You try."
Ember rolled her eyes, but eventually stood up and approached the edge once again.
She screamed.
As hard as she could.
And god, did it feel so good.
Sapnap yelled again, and so did she.
"I FUCKING HATE MY PARENTS!" Ember rasped.
"IM BISEXUAL," Sapnap choked.
"ME TOO! A MENACE TO SOCIETY."
"AND IM ALSO I FUCKING MINECRAFT YOUTUBER," he finished.
So many truths. So many confessions.
But Ember once again laughed at the last part. She tossed her head backwards, words blurring in her mind.
But Sapnap...well Sapnap was crying. His voice hitched into hiccups, and then small, echoing sobs. Ember turned to find him on his knees, head in arms. She stopped laughing and flung herself towards her friend.
"SAP?!" She screamed, half not aware of the volume in her voice. She took his head in her hands.
"That was just a- a lot to unpack." He whimpered. "Even to myself. Can we go? I need food."
Ember nodded fast. "Off to IHOP."
