With the new Candyman movie coming up I decided to write this idea purely out of amusement. It combines the 1992 film and the new one.
Anthony McCoy - Natsu Dragneel
Candyman/Daniel Robitallie - Gray Fullbuster
Helen Lyle/Caroline Sullivan - Juvia Lockser
Brianna Cartwright and Bernadette Walsh - Lucy Heartfilia
Anne-Marie McCoy (Gender Swapped) - Zeref Dragneel
Ever since he was little boy Natsu Dragneel has always had strange visions and dreams about an ominous looking man which he would then paint, but for some reason his older brother Zeref (Who's been raising him since the suicide of their parents) discourages him from having to do with his visions and constantly gets rid of his paintings. Although Natsu manages to hide a few of them.
As a young man he becomes an aspiring artist and begins dating art gallery director Lucy Heartfilia who one day discovers one of his old paintings and decides to use it in her gallery. The painting catches the interest of a local who recognizes the man in the painting calling him the Devil Slayer, a figure of legend who haunts the downtown regions of Magnolia and can be summoned if you call his name five times in the mirror. This intrigues Natsu and Lucy's friend Juvia Lockser a graduate student who's doing a report on urban myths. Natsu sees the myth as excellent publicity for his art and Juvia believes it to be a perfect subject for her paper so the two of them begin to investigate more into the legend of the devil slayer.
They learn that the devil slayer's real name was Gray Fullbuster and he was the son of a Scottish man who moved to Magnolia along with many other settlers from the three kingdoms. When he became a man he found work as an artist and was hired by an Irish landowner to commission a portrait of his daughter. They fell in love and she became pregnant but sadly Gray's great grandfather happened to have been in the business of Irish slave trading so naturally he was furious when he discovered the relationship and he executed a horrible revenge. He and a group vigilantes chased him down to the edge of Magnolia in the dead of winter where they had him stripped, beaten, and scorched ash all over his body. Then they left him chained up to a tree with little to no clothing. His lover tried to save him but by the time she got there he had died of hypothermia. With his last breath he cried out how the world was filled devils and if God wouldn't slay them then he would. So every time he is summoned he slays anyone that he deems a devil. Thus giving him the name Devil Slayer.
When the investigation starts to scare Lucy both Natsu and Juvia call out Devil Slayer five times while looking into a mirror and seemingily nothing happens which convinces them all that the legend is nothing more than that. But shortly afterward the Devil Slayer does appear to both Natsu and Juvia (Albeit at different times and it's done one by one) he explains to them that for years he has been trapped in limbo unable to finish his goal of riding the world of demons but now that they have summoned him he has been granted access back to earth to do as he pleases.
He sets off killing people that he views as a "devils" which raises panic and guilt in the artist and grad student. Even worse people began to suspect that Natsu is the killer and that Juvia is losing her mind. Now to save Natsu from jail and Juvia from the mental institution they have to somehow help vengeful apparition find peace. But the search for the way to do that leads to them discovering some interesting facts about each other. Like how Natsu's brother has been hiding certain family records from him, specifically ones about their Scottish ancestors. And how Juvia strikingly resembles Gray's lover and constantly feels drawn to him. Soon they realize that their connection to Gray Fullbuster goes much deeper than just victim and victimizer, and that there's another, more evil supernatural force at work here.
