*Kenya*(9:00)

My doctor’s appointment is in 15 minutes so I’m getting ready to head out .I have decided to take Kendall to school since she still has time to go to school.. After I dropped Kendall off I only had 5 minutes to get to my appointment but it was only a few minutes away so I made it there on time .By the time I was able to sign in and sit down for about 2 minutes my name was called. Knowing that I have cancer I still try not to let that affect my lifestyle but I have to be careful with many things. I still haven’t told my children about it because I don’t want to freak them out. “Hey Mrs. Davis” Mr. Williams said as greeted me. “Hello, how are you” I replied. I’m fine and you? He said “As far as I know I am good.” I said “Well speaking of that Kenya, I received your test scores back from your last visit.” “Soooo what news will you tell me now I hope it’s nothing bad.” I said with a worried look on my face. “Well Mrs. Davis I am sorry that I have to be the one breaking this news to you, but I’ve been your doctor since you were a little girl as you know.” “Yes I do remember that, you and my mother went way back before I was born. But what’s the news” “I actually have good news and bad news so I’ll say the good first.” Mr. Williams said.” “Well the good news is that you are healthy with your physical health but unfortunately your stress level increases every visit which isn’t good for you.  And here’s the total bad news….from the looks of the tests it shows you have up to 6 months to live.” After he said that I couldn’t take it anymore and I just broke down. What am I going to tell my children? I didn’t want to hear anything else so I just got up grabbed my purse and left out of the room with tears flooding my eyes, which started to blur my vision. When I finally got out to my car I sat there crying and trying to get my thoughts together at the same time but it was all just so hard for me. “First I find out I have cancer then my husband  goes out and do something good with his life to support his family then he dies during war and now I only have six months to live, it just doesn’t get any better.” About fifteen minutes later I decided to call kyonna and tell her I had something serious to talk to her about. When I reached the hospital Kyonna’s doctor walked into the room with two casts he placed one around her wrist and the other one on her left leg. As he finished placing the boot on her leg, he explained what had happened and come to find out she tore and ligament in her leg when she fell and he fractured her wrist. The doctor then handed her crutches and told me “whenever she is ready I can sign the release papers.” As soon as he said that I nodded my head signed the papers and we made our way to the car and I tried to put a smile on my face I just couldn’t manage to do so.

During the ride to get Kendall from school something felt different. I looked over at my mom and I saw a few tears fall from her eyes. It hurts my heart to see my mother cry but it’s even worse when I don’t know the reason. I broke the silence by asking my mom what’s wrong. She avoids making eye contact and just says nothing but then she finally pulls over to the side of the road and looks at me. “Listen Kendall there is no easy way to say this but I don’t want to freak you out and please don't be upset.” She said I nodded my head and told her, “go ahead and ok I promise.” “Well at my doctor’s appointment today I found out some hard news to take in and I don’t want to beat around the bush with it so I will just come out and say it.” “Baby you know I love you and Kendall with all of my heart!?” “I may be leaving soon and I need you to step up as more than just a sister. And as difficult as this may sound I don’t have much time left to live so I will need you to stay strong and take care of your sister.”  She said as tears flew down from her eyes. “Momma we will get through this and as hard as this will be I will hold it down like you have since daddy passed away.” I replied keeping the throbbing tears from dropping down my face. I told my mother I will stay strong for her so that starts now so I will not cry in front of her. After we got ourselves together we switched seats so now I was driving. I began driving down the street to Kendall’s school and as we became closer I turned the radio on and up.

When my kyonna and my mom pulled up, my mom looked sad but surprisingly kyonna was excited to see me and this was a rarity. Once we got home I decided to get a snack out of the cabinet then take a nap on the living room couch. I began watching “The Game “all until sleep took over me. When I woke up from my nap which was about 8 o’clock, the game was still on because it was Tuesday so it was a marathon until the new episode came on at 9 o’clock. I went into Kyonna’s room and seen her laying across her bed talking to someone on the phone. I tapped her leg and told her “I was sorry for what had happened earlier” and she shook her head and said “I forgive you.” The next day I woke up went into the bathroom then did my hygiene routine. Since today was Saturday I had planned to have a real chill and relaxed day.  I walked into my mother’s room and she was still sleeping so I left back out after planting a kiss on her forehead.

It is now 4:50 and my mom is still in bed, this is weird .as I walked out of my room I saw Kendall sitting outside of my mother’s door crying. “Kendall what’s wrong” I asked stooping down in front of her. She then stood up and opened my mother’s door as I saw her lying on the floor I quickly ran down and kneeled by her side and called the ambulance. Now this is where life and reality kicks in….here’s the real start of my journey.
