Their Talk

[In this story, all Class A students have graduated and become Pro Heroes. They're all in their mid 20's. Also, we're pretending "The Hospital Visit" didn't happen here]

Fumikage Tokoyami stood atop a building, looking down at all the civilians as he was on patrol. He stared, watching as people walked by on their phones or talking to their friends. Nothing bad going on, unlike some usual nights.

The bird headed man heard some footsteps behind him. Guessing it was the person he invited, he didn't even turn his head to greet them.

"Hey, Fumi," Kyoka Jirou walked over to the ledge he stood on, "So, what'd you call me here for?" Fumikage softly smiled at an old friend.

"Just to talk as I'm on patrol. Kinda boring up here, ya know?" Kyoka looked a little shocked.

"Damn. It's been so long, I forgot you don't talk like you used to in highschool." The two shared a slightly saddened laugh. Kyoka could now feel the weight Fumikage had on his shoulders. They could tell he was keeping something secret, and that was obviously why he wanted to talk to them.

"There is something I wanted to talk about..." Fumikage trailed off, clenching his teeth. Kyoka tried loosening the tension with a soft smile.

"It's okay, Fumi. Just..." Kyoka tried finding the right words so it didn't seem they were trying to keep him quiet.

In the end, they both stayed quiet for a while. Fumikage watched the people below them, finding words and phrases to say for the upcoming conversation he's planning.

Kyoka looked at the blood moon above them, messing with their skinny jeans pocket. Inside was a small stone they'd expect was in Fumikage's pocket too. It was their promise stone the bird found in a river. A cute way to keep their friendship going past highschool.

But, the silence between them was horrible for both. Hearing cars driving by and mumbled talking wasn't something that could break it either. It more added to the tension.

"Kyoka," Fumikage started, filling both ears for something else other than the sound from below, "Do you remember your situation with Yaomomo? When you-"

"I told everyone that I was straight so she wouldn't feel weird when I hung out with her? Yeah, I do." Kyoka laughed at the memory, like it was some joke. Fumikage thought differently, but he still smiled at her.

"Where are you two now," The dark hero asked, "Married?"

"No, but I do plan on proposing to her. We're dating," Kyoka excitedly said. Fumikage's smile slightly shifted, as did his emotions.

"Oh yeah, how are you and Tsu? Heard she liked you," Kyoka tried, again, lightening the mood, slightly elbowing their friends foot. His face told them otherwise.

"I didn't like her like that. I, um, liked..." Fumikage trailed off, moving his head in a way to pop his neck. It was now Kyoka realized their friend had a black choker instead of his usual red one.

"Who? Does she not like you back? I can help!"

"He... He doesn't like me back," Fumikage stated quietly, emphasizing the pronoun change. Kyoka looked shocked.

Fumikage was ready to call out Dark Shadow and fly away while laughing like Hawks did to him. But Kyoka stopped him with a reached hand to his pocket.

"Fumi... Who is it," Fumikage finally faced Kyoka, seeing their kind and concerned eyes. He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

"I like... Denki... And still do... But he obviously doesn't like me," Fumikage tried laughing it off, but Kyoka wasn't having it. They tugged at his pocket, motioning him to get off the ledge and stand next to him.

The dark caped hero got down, looking down at his friend who mumbled a small 'you got taller'. The two stood there, one with arms crossed and the shorter with hands in their pockets.

"Denki," Kyoka asked, "Like, Kaminari Denki? The same blonde who flirted with me and Ochako constantly and hung out with a short pervert? That Denki?"

Fumikage shifted his weight around on his feet, holding his shoulders up to his head as he tried not to listen to the explanation.

"Yes, that Denki," Fumikage avoided eye contact, as if this statement was embarrassing, "but he likes you. And... and you like Yaomomo. You even rejected him for her, and he still tried!

"He kept trying and trying, confession after confession," Fumikages voice started to raise, worrying Kyoka as they glanced at his abdomen, "It didn't matter how many times you rejected him, he was persistent. It hurt so much, Kyoka! To see him go up to you with so much excitement and only talk to me because he felt lost in a project!

"I know I made that happen, but knowing he wasn't even happy seeing me after graduation in a mission! He didn't even say hi! He just left me!

"Denki is enamored with you! You are his most special jewel! But he's mine! You obviously don't care about him like he does to you!"

"Fumi," Kyoka shouted, grabbing one of his arms and placing a hand over his middle as if their pure mental will could stop Dark Shadow, "You told all of us you were straight..." Kyoka spoke softer, trying to calm him down.

Fumikage looked disappointed. The friend that has done the same he has done was standing here, telling him he said one thing but is saying the other. This was what he was afraid of, but coming from them is worse.

"Kyoka, tell me what happened with your Yaomomo situation again..." The purple haired friend looked confused, but did so anyways.

"I told the whole class I was straight so Yaomomo wouldn't... find me weird... oh..." Kyoka got it. Their best friend, since the beginning of highschool, didn't want to be looked at as weird to anyone.

Kyoka let go of Fumikages arm and took their hand off of his abdomen. They looked up at their, now, much taller friend. His eyes teary and red.

"There. That's why I said it. Why I lied to everyone." Kyoka hugged Fumikage tightly, resting their nose onto his collar bone. He hugged back quicker than they'd expect, but the friend they're hugging is a very forgiving man.

"I'm so sorry. I guess it's both of our faults," Kyoka laughed, hearing Fumikage laugh with them.

"I guess so. And to think, I was one of the best communicators in the class," The bird joked, causing his friend to laugh harder.

"Yeah, and you still are. Sexuality is just hard to talk about," They both let go of the hug, sad smiles and tears on their faces. "Obviously, since even Izu was scared to admit he was Omnisexual. Man talks about a lot of things too!"

The two laughed more, wiping their tears. Fumikage smiled lightly at the memory of Izuku Midoriya and all his mumbling as he tried to explain being omni. Kyoka noticed this and smiled smugly.

"Is there another crush I didn't know about," Kyoka teased. Fumikage rolled his eyes.

"After the first few times, you realize Izu's mumbling got kinda cute," Fumikage explained, of which Kyoka nodded and agreed.

Before the two could completely calm down from their emotional rollercoaster, there were police cars driving down the road. Both long time friends getting a message in their ear pieces of a villain going on a rampage. Without thinking, Fumikage called out Dark Shadow and grabbed Kyoka.

"What are you doing," Kyoka asked, reflectivly grabbing onto Fumikage's arms.

"Giving you a ride, Kyoka," Fumikage said with a smile, before picking up his friend and flying to the villains area.
