Mr. Martin: Alright, everyone. Today, we will learn about abstract art and maybe do some during the week. Now Abstract Art uses visual language of shape, form, color, and line to create a composition that may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Here are some examples of Abstract Art. *He went to the computer and looked up pictures of Abstract Art. * Here's one.

Nathaniel: A combination of different colors.

Marinette: Who would consider this abstract?

Nathaniel: I would. (If I knew how to paint.)

Mr. Martin: Here's one more. *He clicked on the next abstract art picture. *

Alix: Looks okay

Alix: Looks okay. And clean.

Mr. Martin: Those are examples of Abstract Art. We will learn more about Abstract Art and tomorrow, we'll paint some Abstract Art, okay? *Everyone answered yes. * Good. Now, let's get started. *He exited the computer, stepped away from the computer, held an art textbook, and opened chapter 9. * Everyone takes out their textbook and turns to page 567 the beginning of chapter 9. *Everyone grabs their textbook and turns it to chapter 9. * Now, a little bit more about abstract art. It's a kind of art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead uses shapes, colors, forms, and gestural marks to achieve its effect. There are 6 effects that all abstract art must have and those are Line, Texture, Shape, Form, Color, and Value. Remember those elements. Take notes if you want to. *Some take their notes and pencils out start writing notes down and pay attention. * Therefore, the skills behind Abstract Art lie in her ability to use colors and textures to their best visual strength and to create a sound composition from these elements. But, on an added note, most abstract painters are skilled and have trained hard in traditional painting/drawing styles.

Nathaniel: He's going a little fast.

Mr. Martin: Abstract Art can be painted by any famous artist like Agnes Martin. She's one of the abstract artists. Here's her work. *He went to the computer and popped up one of her artwork. * This is her abstract artwork.

Alix: They look kinda like people.

Mr. Martin: I know we can't fully see clearly on the abstract art, but it's fun to picture what we think is in the abstract. There are no right or wrong answers to abstract art.

Marinette; Sounds reasonable. *Then, the bell rings. *

Mr. Martin: Class dismiss, see you all tomorrow. *Everyone grabs their stuff and leaves the classroom. Some people have after-school stuff like after-school programs or detention, and some other people head home. *

Marinette: School day's over.

Tikki: You're pretty happy.

Marinette: Yeah, you could say that. But not too happy. I'll tell you later. *She keeps walking home from school. *
