Chapter 10: Christmas Wishes

Emma stood on the train platform, watching the train pull away into the cloudy afternoon. All the students were aboard, on their way home for the Christmas holidays. Emma turned back to Draco and smiled.

“We get to go home now, too.”

Draco smiled back and approached her, wrapping his arms around her.

“Yes, we get to go home.”

Emma wrapped her arms tightly around him as well.

“Aren’t you looking forward to going home?” she asked.

Draco didn’t answer.

“We get a week and a half to ourselves,” she said, holding him tighter.

“Yeah, and it’s going to be spent in my dysfunctional household.”

“Oh, be quiet,” Emma said, putting her head against his chest.

The two of them stood on the platform under the falling snow for awhile before re-boarding a carriage and going back to the castle.

“I have to go speak to my father for just a moment, and then we will be on our way,” Emma said as they walked up the stairs.

“Alright. I’ll meet you in the lobby.”

Emma quickly went up the stairs and to her father’s office.

Three quick knocks on the door and the usual response of, “Come in, Emma,” and she was again sitting in her customary spot in a chair across the desk from her father.

“On your way home?” he asked.

“As soon as we are done talking,” she replied with a smile.

“You do remember that I need you back for a few days?”

“Yes,” she replied, “and I will return as soon as you need me. But until them I will be at home with Draco.”

“I do not yet know when I need you back. It will depend upon when I get the information of where they are.”

“Harry finally wrote back to me. Ron stormed off on them a few days ago.”

Snape nodded but did not say anything on the matter.

“You may go. Be watching for my owl.”

Emma nodded and smiled, standing up.

“Emma,” her father said, stopping her. “It is nice to see you smile again.”

Emma nodded and turned. She was out the door in a matter of seconds, down the stairwell, and sprinted full speed to the lobby.

“Draco!” she called gleefully, throwing herself at him as he turned to her. The two of them nearly fell over.

“Time to go!” she announced happily, throwing her arms around his neck.

“Yes,” he said, “time to go. You're going to have to let go of me, though.”

Emma smiled and rolled her eyes.

“Alright,” she murmured.

She let go of Draco and stood next to him, holding his hand tightly.

“Ready?” she asked with a smile.

“Ready.”

They were standing on the front steps of Malfoy just moments later.

“Home at last!” Emma announced

“Yeah. Home.”

“Why do you have to be so dreadfully depressing?” Emma complained.
