"So what do you have in mind for Harry?" Liam asked.
"I want to give him the world!" Louis said and threw his arms out dramatically.
"I see. Can be a little difficult." Liam smiled amused.
"But he's the best human I have ever met. He deserves the world." Louis pouted.
That was one way of putting it.
"I'm sure he does but if you would think of one thing to give him, except the whole world, what would that be?" Liam asked patiently."I don't know...maybe this stapler? It's cool, right?" Louis said and picked up a stapler.
Liam thought that he was joking, obviously, but the look on Louis' face told him otherwise.
"Uhm, yeah. I'm sure he'll love it but maybe you should buy something more romantic too?""Like what?" Louis wondered.
"Like, a necklace maybe?" Liam suggested. He had to think of something otherwise Harry would get a stapler as a Christmas gift. Louis was clutching it tightly against his chest. But he didn't think Harry would care. He was so gone for this man.
Louis bought the stapler and they walked into a jewelry store and took a look around. Louis spotted a silver cross and drew in a sharp breath.
"That one, that's perfect!""Oh, okay?" Liam said.
"Yes, it will remind him of me." Louis smiled.
Yeah, Liam wouldn't ask why. It was kind of weird, but most things were when it came to Louis. He had gotten used to it. They continued their shopping and Louis bought something for Harry's mum and sister as well, with Liam guiding him, otherwise, they had ended up with glue and a hammer. He let him buy whatever he wanted for Niall, Zayn, and himself, walking away while Louis picked out his present. He was sure that it would be an interesting one. He took the opportunity to find Louis a birthday gift and a Christmas present in the meantime. He was pretty sure the 24th wasn't actually Louis's real birthday but that was what the fake birth certificate said so he would go with that. They finished their shopping and went back to Louis' and Harry's flat.
Zayn and Niall were there when they arrived. Louis dropped his bags at the door and walked right up to Harry and kissed him.
"I missed you.""I missed you too. Did you have fun with Liam?" Harry asked.
"Yes, I bought you all presents! Wait, let me show you." Louis said excitedly.
"We're supposed to open those at Christmas, mate." Niall said.
"Oh, right. But then I won't see you open them, and you're my family." Louis said, looking really disappointed.
Liam, Zayn, and Niall shared a look. They were all moved by that statement.
"Well, how about we celebrate a Christmas of our own tomorrow, before we head home?" Zayn suggested."We can do that?" Louis asked.
"Of course. Yeah, we'll order some Christmas pizza and hang out, exchange gifts, and so on." Liam answered.
Louis looked at Harry.
"Hazza?""That sounds like a wonderful idea." Harry smiled.
Louis let out a squeal and hugged them all before he took his bags to the bedroom to wrap his presents.
"Thanks, guys. It means a lot to him." Harry told the boys."We're very fond of the little guy. Of course." Zayn answered.
"I guess I have some Christmas wrapping to attend to. See you tomorrow then. Twelve?" Niall asked.
The boys left and Harry made dinner while Louis was busy wrapping presents.
The boys showed up the next day. Harry had baked a cake and they ordered pizza. They shared many laughs when they opened the presents, mostly at the ones Louis had bought. Harry got the stapler, Liam got a bottle opener in the shape of a duck, Niall got a pack of post-it notes in different colors and Zayn got a porcelain cat. They all thanked him for their presents and Louis beamed. Then he got to open his own presents and made happy squeals and ran to hug them all after every opened present. All the boys smiled at him fondly. If they could adopt him together, they would, except Harry who was planning on marrying him one day.
Louis got to blow out the candles on his first birthday cake ever and then they had to get going to make it home in time.
"I'm nervous." Louis admitted as they parked outside Harry's family home. It felt strange to be here again but in human form. He had spent so many years by Harry's side in this house as his guardian angel.
"You'll be fine. Just be yourself. They will love you because I love you." Harry said and gave him a peck on the lips before they got out of the car.
Harry's mother Anne opened the front door to greet them. She hugged her son.
"Look how big you are. I missed you.""I missed you too. Mum, this is Louis, my boyfriend." Harry introduced them after he hugged her back.
"Hello, momma Anne. Thank you for letting me spend Christmas here." Louis said with a shy smile.
Anne smiled at him.
"We're happy to finally get to meet you. Harry has told me so much about you. Won't your family miss you over Christmas though?" She asked."I don't have a family." Louis said and grabbed their bags.
Anne shared a concerned look with her son.
"I'm sorry to hear that Louis.""Harry is my family." Louis smiled and headed toward the door.
Harry grabbed the bags with Christmas presents and followed him inside.
"I'll just put these in your room." Louis said and headed up the stairs."Maybe you should go with him to show him which room's yours?" Anne commented.
"Oh, I told him on the way here. He'll find it." Harry said and brought the presents to the Christmas tree.
Anne made them tea and as soon as Louis came down they sat by the kitchen table.
"So tell me everything about your new school. Do you like your dorm? Have you made any new friends?" Anne asked."Uhm, school is great, and yes, we made two new friends, Liam and Zayn. We hang out all the time, Niall too of course. Eh, and have actually moved out of my form. Louis and I live in an apartment off campus." Harry said nervously.
His mum seemed surprised but she didn't comment on it. The front door opened and Harry's older sister Gemma yelled "I'm home!"
They spend four days with Harry's family. Harry had told his mum that it was Louis' birthday the day before Christmas and they all woke him up singing happy birthday and gave him presents and cake. Louis bursted into tears and Harry had to explain to his family that it was the first time someone had celebrated him on his birthday. Anne was taken back by that and acted extra sweet towards the young boy who must have had a horrible childhood, orphan and all.
Christmas came and went. Harry loved the necklace Louis gave him and he had bought Louis a pair of vans that he loved.
When it was time to return to London Louis had won over Anne and Gemma completely. They could see how much he loved Harry and how much Harry loved him and Anne welcomed him to the family which made Louis cry again. He hugged her tightly when it was time to say goodbye and she promised that she would come to visit soon.
