They spend New Year's Eve with the boys. Louis tried smoking pot for the first time in his life with Zayn and laughed so much that he almost peed his pants. They were gathered in the living room when Niall finally asked the question they had all been thinking about.
"Louis, seriously. What are you?"

"What do you mean? A human." Louis giggled.

Niall was eyeing him suspiciously.
"Obviously mate, but you act like you became a human like yesterday or something."

"Oh." Louis' face dropped and he shared a look with Harry.

"It's up to you love if you want to tell them." Harry said softly, stroking his knee.

"Well, they're my family. They should know." Louis said and bit his lower lip.

Niall, Zayn, and Liam were waiting for an explanation. Louis turned to look at them.
"I used to be Harry's guardian angel."

Zayn, Liam, and Niall burst out laughing but when Harry and Louis didn't join in on the joke they stopped abruptly.
"Wait, are you serious?" Zayn questioned.

"Yes." Louis giggled.

"Oh, come on! Stop fucking with us." Niall grunted.

Louis looked at Harry.
"Why does Niall think I'm having sex with them?"

"It's just an expression, love. He means that he thinks you're joking." Harry explained with an amused smile.

"Oh, funny." Louis giggled.

"Harry! He's not serious!" Niall said.

"He is." Harry smiled.

"I want to hear this from you. We've been friends since forever! Explain and don't you dare lie to me." Niall said, sounding upset.

"Okay, remember that time you took me swimming in the middle of the night on my birthday?" Harry asked.

"How could I forget? You almost drowned." Niall snorted.

"Right, but I didn't because Louis saved me. That was the first time I saw him. He was so exhausted that he forgot to stay invisible." Harry explained.

Niall stared at him like he was crazy.
"After that, I asked him to show himself to me and he did. We became friends and then we fell in love, or I did." Harry said.

"I did too but I didn't understand it. But then a nice lady angel came and told me that I could choose to be human, just as Harry had told me that he wanted me to wipe his memories and stay hidden and I was crying. So I did and here I am." Louis explained poorly.

"And how exactly did you become a human?" Zayn asked.

"I fell, from the school building. It hurt!" Louis said.

Niall stared at him in disbelief.
"You can't expect us to believe this."

Harry just shrugged his shoulders, Louis looked unhappy. Niall turned to look at Zayn and Liam.
"It would actually explain why there's no record of Louis' existence." Liam said thoughtfully.

"What do you mean?" Niall asked.

"Well, I got to know Harry and Louis when Harry came to me and asked if I could give Louis an identity, like, everything he needed, from birth certificate to school grades and so on." Liam explained.

"You can do that?" Niall questioned.

"Well, it's not exactly legal Ni, but yes I can, and I did." Liam chuckled.

"This is insane. Are you telling us that we all have guardian angels?" Niall asked and looked around himself suspiciously.

"Of course. I actually met yours. His name is Vernon. Lovely angel." Louis replied and Niall gasped and looked even more scared.

"Are you really buying this?" He asked Zayn and Liam.

"Yeah, it explains a lot." Liam smirked.

"Yeah, come on, the dude can spend an hour sniffing a freaking potato. This makes sense." Zayn smirked.

"I...I...Harry. Is this really true?" Niall asked.

"Yes. I wouldn't lie to you, Niall. You're my best friend." Harry said sincerely.

"Well, fuck me." Niall gasped.

"No, why do you keep saying that? I only fuck Harry, no one else." Louis said upset.

Harry let out something between a snort and a cackle.
"Still just an expression, love."

"So you gave up being an Angel for Harry?" Zayn asked.

"Yes, one mortal life with him is worth so much more than an eternity alone. I love Harry." Louis answered softly.

Niall choked back a sob.
"That's so beautiful. Oh my God!"

Zayn and Liam looked emotional as well.
"Thanks for telling us, Louis." Zayn said.

"Yeah, but is Harry without a guardian angel now?" Liam asked.

"No, I'm sure he got a new one, and me too when I think about it. I'm just glad he can't see that one so he doesn't fall in love with that Angel instead." Louis answered.

"That would never happen, and you know that." Harry replied softly and pecked his lips lovingly.

"Oh fuck! It's almost twelve o'clock! Where's the champagne?" Niall shouted and they all got up.

They headed out to the balcony, popped the champagne, and watched the fireworks, wishing each other a happy new year. Harry kissed Louis, taking his breath away.
"Happy new year Angel. I love you." Harry whispered.

"Happy New year. I love you more." Louis said and connected their lips once more.

Niall shoved a glass of champagne in their hands and made a toast.
"For friendship, family, fallen angels, and new adventures!"

They all clinked their glasses together and cheered before they drank the champagne.
