20. The Biggest Betrayal 

Jarred's POV

Earlier, I was asked how I felt because my own mate betrayed me. All through the fighting, the scheming, the death. All I could think of was Gabby. Gabrielle Estelle Brandt English. I wondered how this girl, a girl with such potential to be the 'perfect' Luna due to her will, determination and strength could betray her own mate...and his family. 

Maybe right now, I'm a little too far ahead.

I woke up, startled by the coolness on my chest and what felt like a wet snout on my cheeks. A smile formed at my face as I began to open my eyes to face the large, terror-filled eyes of a wolf...but not just any wolf..

Jarred! Jordan's voice called in my mind, franctic and terrified.

I sat up, half naked and only covered in a picnic blanket and looked around, my eyes wandering and lookign around for my mate. 'Gabby? Where are you baby?' 

'Jarred listen, something's happened.' Jordan said, nudging me with his snout. 'I need you to calm down and come with me, man.'

'Why? What's happened? Where's Gabby?' I took a deep breath, looking for the scent of my mate yet found only faint traces which were hours old. I stood up then, not minding that I was stark naked ands shifted, my head filling with worry as to what happened to my sweet mate. 'Where's Gabrielle?' I asked Jordan, using my Alpha Tone. 

He stiffened yet bowed his head down, showing his submission. Through our mindlink he spoke: 'Gone. She's gone.' 

'What?' I growled. 'Where did she go?' 

'She left. Even the Rogue's left. She went up to the border and made her scent seem human. I'm almost sure she used her powers as a Riser to do that. We caught a human scent but saw the wolf--Elle's grey wolf--shift to human. She went up to the border, Jarred. She's gone.' 

'She can't be gone! We mated!' I growled and shut him out of my mind. I thought hard until I could feel heartstrings in my mind, the pull of my mate--the force of nature and fate. I felt the tie that brought me to Gabrielle. 'Gabby? Baby, where are you? Are you alright?' 

'The rogue's have surrenedered. They're leaving your land.' She had no emotion in her voice. No love or even sadness. It was blank...almost like the Gabrielle I met before I made her the mate I had today. Happy. Mine. 

'Gabby, baby, that's good! I'm coming to get you alright? I'm going to shift and I'm coming to get you.'

'Don't. I don't want you. You're nothing special. You're nothing to me. I deny you.' Her words strung me and my heart constricted with pain on my chest 

'What are you...what do you mean? Gabby?' 

'I mean exactly what I said. I deny you. I deny your love and our connection as mates. I deny what fate and nature have done to bring us together. I deny your pack and I deny being Luna to your back. I do not want anything to do with you.' I felt our link dissolve--the pull in my heartstrings disappeared and the feeling of having her in my mind had gone. 

Nothing. There was nothing.
