Shock was not even close to what Jane thought she saw in the faces of the police officers present here. This should be something other than the usual, usual shock, when it came out that something had happened between two people. What it was, however, should be here, between being disgusted and falling away from the faith. It was definitely quite common adult behavior when they learned that two others, adults, had had something together.
"What?!" it escaped the dark-haired stunned, who just a few minutes ago said he hated someone, "Why?! How.... how does he do that? He's the vulture. What did he do to make you want to sleep with him and not hit him? How?"
"He's hot," a woman with curly hair said unimpressed, "He's an ass and I hate him but he's hot."
"Okay," escaped Jane, panting and audibly drawing in air because this was, supposedly, adult, "I ended up in kindergarten..... okay. Um.... okay.... I.... wow, I forgot what I was going to say."
"You were going to tell us why you had a thing with the vulture." but, that was not what Jane wanted, so she looked at the dark haired man with half narrowed eyes.
What kind of cops were these, please? What had she gotten herself into, a voice in Jane's head wanted to know, since it couldn't be true that the only thing of interest was her last night.
"What have you all got? He's nice so what's the problem?", Jane wanted to know what was more of a rhetorical question and looked around, "Why do you call him the Vulture anyway?"
"Because he vultures everything and everyone a case away," the dark-haired man replied, upset, "The cases that are as good as solved."
"That doesn't make sense," Jane shook her head because something didn't quite add up, "Vultures are scavengers. Overwhelmingly so. Wouldn't that mean he'd take the cases no one else wants or is left with?"
No answer. First.
