Things were bad enough as they were. Now she had to deal with Dora's arrest. Harvey was most shaken of all. He barely spoke and spent the rest of the day sharpening his axe. The shop had to be closed until they found a solution.
"Where did they take her?" Eda asked. She hoped they could go and quickly get Dora out so she could go and try to help her mother.
"I don't know. The Betas are elusive," Lester said.
"They're in the Hatch," Harvey said. He finally stood up gripping tightly at his axe. "I'm goin' to get her back."
"Pardon me Harvey but don't you think you're rushing. Let's go all together and we can bail her out," Eda said.
"Yer don' understand. Beta's are brutes. Who knows what they be doing to her right now," Harvey said tears welling up in his eyes.
"Calm down," Lester said coldly. "Are you certain the Betas are in the Hatch?"
"They are," Harvey responded.
"For all of our sakes I hope you're right." Lester turned his head and faced Rhys who nodded as if they had had a secret conversation within their minds.
Rhys picked up his small bag of moon dust and wore a new shirt he had got that was black and was able to cover the lower half of his face. The look in his eyes was dangerous which made Eda wonder what he was going to do.
"Harvey, you'll lead Rhys to the Hatch, where he'll be able to take care of the rest," Lester instructed.
"What about me?" Eda asked feeling left out.
"You cannot fall into the hands of the Betas. They might be Watchers but they are the work dogs. They can kill on sight and we can't afford to lose you,"
"We can't lose them either," Eda pointed to Rhys and Harvey, "If we all go, we will increase our chances of getting her."
"No. Rhys and Harvey will go get her. You have to remain hidden from them."
Eda wasn't even sure if she wanted to go. If anything, she wanted to test out the extent of her power in a tense situation but she would be of no good captured or dead. However, she had made up her mind. If Dora could not be found, she will have no choice but to go home first.
"Fine," Eda agreed in defeat. "I shall stay."
"Rhys," Lester called, "If they already did it to her, don't fight. Come back. You too Harvey."
Rhys and Harvey then left in a rush but somewhat fearful. Rhys even had a hood on. Nearly his entire face was covered while Harvey had a special looking axe that had a golden glow along its pommel.
"What do the Betas do that's so bad you can't say?"
"Ever heard of the Serpent's tunnel?"
Eda shook her head. That was new to her even the Betas themselves were new. She never knew Watchers had branches let alone one that killed.
"It's a labyrinth of torture. Unruly magic users are taken there and left to waste in their own filth that is if the sea serpents don't kill them first."
"You do seem to know a lot about the Watchers," Eda said sitting on the nearest chair she could find.
"That's because I was once a Watcher," Lester said calmly. He didn't even seem bothered by the answer as if it was a casual thing.
"I didn't know one could stop being a Watcher,"
"There's more to this cat than what meets the eye."
