I haven't been here in a long time...

Nervous wasn't enough to explain my mood right now. More like, shaky. I was pacing to and fro at the entrance of the house for what seemed to be forever. 'What if she doesn't want to see me again?' The thought kept ringing in my head. And it didn't seem to quiet down anytime soon.

After God knows how many minutes of arguing with myself at the front door, I finally muster up the courage to knock. The house hasn't changed since I last saw it. Still had the same white walls, darkish grey roof, the same summer lilies in the front yard she used to take such good care of that were now buried in the snow, the same flower beds by the windows filled with tulips, hell, maybe the inside was still the same. I was strung as tight as a bow, I hadn't even realized I was rocking back and forth on my feet the entire time.

I hear the doorknob twist and immediately fix my posture. "Kurapika." My shoulders slump slightly, but I can't tell if it's out of relief or disappointment.

"Hi, Justine."

"What... are you doing here?"

She looks around to see if I brought anyone with me and I just stand there awkwardly, twiddling my gloved fingers. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I reply, "Uh... Is- Is your sister home?"

She tried her best to not seem surprised but I could see it. The slight raise of her eyebrows and mouth parting the tiniest bit that you'd have to squint to see it. "She- She didn't tell you?"

Now it was my turn to be surprised. "Um, no? What- What was she-"

"She moved."

Oh.

"I can take you to her if you want. She got a new house in the outskirts of the city."

I bring my hands up to my face and wave them. "No! It's- It's fine-"

Before I could even stop her, Justine already had her coat on and got her keys. My eyes stay on her figure as she walks up to her red Toyota corolla.

"Get your ass in the car, Kurta."

=====

Justine. She had changed a bit when I last saw her. When I would visit her sister, Justine was usually laying on the couch watching some random horror movie. She doesn't talk a lot, that much I know. When you'd find her, more often than not, she's alone.
