V E R Y A N

Opposite us, in the living room, sat the human, newly clothed, who was the cause of Nicoletta's never ending grin. Landon was wary about having the human unchained, but next to him and the lively Nicoletta I assured him it would be fine. What can this human do to Landon who was eagerly anticipating dragging her down into the dungeon.

"Let's keep her Alpha Landon," Nicoletta bobbed in her chair.

"Definitely not. The dungeon. Put it in."

Nicoletta twisted her face at me, urging me to intervene. I would rather the creepy human who stared bullets into me be taken down into the bowels of Landon's house.

Once she realized that I would not interject Nicoletta resorted to other tactics to make me do so.

"Alpha Landon, did you know that your mate is in love with his bro-"

"Okay!" I jumped up from my seat, "I think you should reconsider the dungeon thing Landon. I'm sure Nico could handle the girl on her own."

Visibly frustrated, still with red tinted ears, he sighed, "Definitely not."

"But why?!" Nicoletta started, her face morphed into an annoyance that could rival Landon's exasperation.

"Nicoletta do not act like a child. You know I don't like children," I was certain children didn't like him either, "You cannot keep it, it is not a pet, but if it is any consolation, I won't kill it."

The human, Vasiliki, only rested her head on Nicoletta's shoulder with an eerie calmness during this exchange; her restless eyes now focused on Landon. The memory of the headache from looking into her eyes still scarred me yet I would rather feel that agony again if it meant she would stop staring at him so intently.

"But why? Murder is usually your dealing of choice," Nicoletta asked, genuinely confused at her Alpha's answer.

He looked at me, the response to his question. Holding my gaze, he studied my eyes for any remnant of what had occurred earlier. And then he stared a little more, searching my eyes for something else. I found it difficult to tear away from him and just sat there letting myself be inspected like a specimen.

Nicoletta cleared her throat, breaking his trance and allowing him to pull away from me. I, in the odd forming awkwardness, turned away from him as if I should be the embarrassed one here.

"I understand. That'll be discussed later then. But since you're not gonna kill her, I'll care for her on my own. No dungeon. Please Alpha."

Her voice carried softly. Her plea tender and true. But she did not pout; staring at her Alpha with determination.

Her entreaty this time did not fall onto the inexorable ears of Landon as he sighed, melting his guard for his beta.

"You've rarely asked for anything before, and I do not know why you want to be tasked with caring for a human when I already gave you Veryan to babysit, but I will oblige you this once."

I let him get away with only my glare for basically calling me an infant, not wanting to disrupt Nicoletta's spur of ecstacy by kicking Landon off his chair which could've cracked his skull hopefully giving him slight brain damage.

She gushed at the girl on her shoulder who had not even tried to utter a sound or object to any dealings which had been made since she came here.

My mind felt uneasy about this entire ordeal and Landon seemed to feel the same way looking upon the human who now held an exaggerated uneasy face and cowered into Nicoletta's hug.

"After I'm done with it we need to take it back to where it came from, so do not get too attached Nicoletta," Landon said, though I'd argue that her feelings are far past attached, "There will be rules for it, understand?"

"Ugh, Alpha, I will have everything under control. I'm never incompetent. And stop calling her 'it'. Her name's Vasiliki. Also... she said she lost her memory. So that means that we'll keep her forever!" She gushed even more, basically spilling excitement from her dark eyes.

Massaging his nose bridge, his annoyance giving way, Landon sighed for the final time, "Nicoletta. Just keep an eye on her until I figure things out out, yes?"

Ferociously nodding her head, Nicoletta gave an array of thanks to Landon and took her human by the hand away from us. The girl turned, golden hair cascading in thin dregs, giving me one last small smile before getting pulled off.

I chose to ignore the gentleness of it and how her green eyes didn't cause any pain as they bore into me, only more confusion, only more clawing from my wolf which I suppressed.

I adjusted my glasses and drew my gaze to Landon who looked like he was the one in pain. His tense shoulders and weary eyes made me pity him, a small portion of me wanted to relieve his discomfort but I was glad to see him in his current state. The unquiet tick in his jaw. His cute ears, never dulling from it's pink tone.

"You looked stressed man, how sad."

He glared at me, "I regret every decision which I have made that has led me to this moment."

"Poor Landon. I should've killed you with that rock all those years ago."

"You truly should have," he leaned into his chair, closing his eyes to me, "Then I wouldn't have to deal with any of this madness. The shards wouldn't be upon my shoulders."

Although I was confused at his statement, I was more confused to why I said, "You have strong shoulders Landon."

He startled out of his chair, as if frightened by my words, though his ears deepened in shade and I wondered if they'd explode.

He swallowed it and cocked his eyebrows.

"I mean- You look like a gorilla so I'd assume that your broad ass shoulders are...strong."

His face returned to the inbetween of scowl and annoyance which meant that my terrible attempt of saving myself from him thinking that I may have said something endearing had worked.

"Seriously Veryan. You're such a-"

"Such a what? Jackass."

"A stupidly irritating little thing."

"I'm actually quite big if you know what I mean."

"No I don't and I do not care to," he said as he relaxed into his chair again. So I sat next to him, in this downcast living room, smug at the satisfaction of seeing the pink deepen in his ears.

"Can I still take up that offer to kill you with a rock?"

"You're stupidly stupid Veryan."

"And you're terribly terrible."
