Chapter 5 - Sophie

Flashback to an hour earlier

"Elwin, come quick! I think something just happened. I feel.....strange, different somehow. Like there is so much power running through my body that.......I don't know what. I guess I am not used to it." My voice sounded shaky, like I just ran a marathon and watched a murder. "WHAT HAPPENED SOPHIE?" Elwin. I knew it was him. I hope he wasn't mad, but I needed him to come. "SOPHE WHAT.....what happened to your eyes?" He asked. "It's a looooooooooong story" I sighed "can you just give me the check up? 'Cause there is definitely something wrong." "Yeah, you're right I should start with that, eh? At least Bullhorn is paying no interest." He snapped making a sphere of yellow light appear around her head, he frowned. He snapped again, making a sphere of red light appear around her head, and frowned even deeper. "What's wrong?" she asked. "You manifested ."

"Well that much we already knew. The question is what ability? Or should I say abilities?" Sophie      deadpanned. "Abilities"  Elwin replied "and you're gonna want to buckle up for this one." "That's a human expression" Sophie wondered how he knew it. " yes, yes. Well as I was saying you have manifested as a Beguiler,Conjurer, Descryer,Empath,Mesmer,Phaser,Psionipath,Technopath,Vanisher, and a Vociferator. You now have  15 abilities."  How the heck was he so calm about this? She had just manifested 10 new abilities at the same time and he was telling her that like it happened every day. Though she realized that she could feel his stress and worry from across the room. She thought only Keefe could do that with her. "I am going to call everyone and tell them to meet here. I have got some explaining to do." And she hailed everyone Fitz,Biana,Grady,Edaline,Marella,Dex,Wylie,Stina,Tam,Linh,The collective, and the Council. 

End of flashback, present day

After everyone arrived she decided it was best to get right to the point, she opened her mouth to speak, but Biana beat her to it. "What happened to your eyes? They are all gold." As if that was not obvious. "It's a long story that I guess I will tell." And she did, she talked and talked. She felt everybody's worry,confusion, and shock. "......and when I lost control of the emotion orb it rebounded into my mind and triggered the new abilities. I manifested as a Beguiler,Conjurer, Descryer,Empath,Mesmer,Phaser,Psionipath,Technopath,Vanisher, and aVociferator."  As she said those words she felt a huge emotional spike. And mr.Forkle stepped forward. 

"Yes, Sophie we designed you that way. I believe it is my turn to do some explaining. So every elf only has a few triggers, a few possibilities of what abilities that can have. Those talentless elves have no triggers. Anyway we gave you triggers for all abilities except the elemental ones. So that way if we needed you to have more we could simply trigger them. But we never intended for all of them to be triggered. But here you are, with 15 abilities I might add. You kids, always getting into trouble. We have a plan, thought before I share it with you, I want to discuss it with the collective. Blur, Granite, Squall, Wraith, outside if I may."

As soon as they were out of the room everyone else started talking

"Your eyes, they were pretty before but now that are beautiful. They radiate power."

"There is no reason to worry"

"15 ABILITIES?! WOW!"

"Why do you think that you have no elemental abilities?"

"Everything is going to be okay"

That last comment ate at her. No, nothing was okay. Keefe was GONE. She had 15 FREAKING abilities. Her eyes were GOLD, what was she a titan? (PJO reference, couldn't help it.) she snapped.

"NO! NOTHING IS OKAY! I JUST MANIFESTED 10 ABILITIES AND IT HURT LIKE HELL! I STARTED A WAR! I HAVE TOO MUCH POWER! I CAN FEEL YOUR WORRY AND IT IS SICKENING! THE NEVERSEEN IS PLOTTING REVENGE! THE COLLECTIVE IS PROBABLY DISCUSSING SOMETHING THAY WILL HURT ME BUT I WILL END UP AGREEING TO BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I DO! AND THE ONLY PERSON I HAVE EVER LOVED IS GONE! gone."

She realized too late that she had said that she loved Keefe. Did she? It just slipped out. But now she could feel Fitz's rage and hurt, and Grady's disappointment and resignation. But - thank god - before anyone one say anything the collective came back in.

"So, what is the plan?" Sophie asked, dread in her voice. "The plan is for you to have surgery. And before you say no" he paused, to look at Grady the overprotective dad he is " let me list the pro's of this plan *ahem* one: she would be able to turn on and off all her abilities as she can do with her inflicting, so she would have to be an empath all the time if she didn't want to. Two: she would gain an extra ability, a new ability. One witch we call rebounding, or a rebounder. Being a rebounder would be a great advantage because nobody could use their abilities to hurt , contain, or control you. The power from that would simply rebound back on them with out harming you. Though, you can decide if you don't want the power to rebound, you can just make it disappear. Three: it would turn the power of your abilities up to 11, you would be as strong in all of them as if you have been training in them for a thousand years, and they would be enhanced. Okay now that I have listed the pros I have to tell you the con, and before I do, I will tell you that this is completely your choice. The con is that we would have to remove you reproductive organs, to create space for a power modifier. The modifier is a part of the body, not a machine. Though we did create it. Like I said we would have to replace your reproductive parts so you would never be able to have kids. Your torso would also be intensively scarred."

Wow, what a big bombshell to drop. No kids-ever. Not that I wanted them.....I would be scorned though, but why care about what other people will think? The people that matter won't care. I need that power and protection to defeat the neverseen, it's a sacrifice I must make. I thought

"I'll do it, I'll suffer - no doubt, but it is the right thing to do" Sophie said. "I can deal with a personal sacrifice, if it gives us a chance. Anything to keep my friends and family alive."
