Heartache

A few days had passed, and Leon was still battling his emotions, since STRATCOM wasn't fulfilling his dreams of "forgetting Ada via killing horrifying monsters". He sat at a bar tonight, a different bar let me tell you. No way he was going back to that other one after what he did there. In fact, this bar was the one that he had gone to with Claire and the others. Leon swirled his drink around in his glass and looked over at the table they all sat at. He smiled to himself, remembering how lively they all were together.

And then he remembered what happened after he left this bar that night.

You just have to make everything about her, don't you.

Ada hadn't contacted him since their rather.. Intimate phone call. The abrupt ending wasn't exactly the closure Leon wanted. He didn't know if he would ever get that closure, though. Not from her. That's why he liked her so much. She was mysterious, annoyingly secretive and full of surprises.

And she had just walked in through the door.

Leon nearly did a double take.

   Okay, well he did.

Because he wouldn't be surprised if he imagined it. If he had drunk too much and she wasn't there at all.

But she was there, walking over to him in the same seductive manner she always did. The dress she wore tonight was short, still red of course. She was wearing black tights and heels, and Leon couldn't help but trail his eyes up over her body. It reminded him of when they first met, the outfit did. Damn it, Leon. Remember? We're supposed to be mad at her.

She leaned her hand on the bar looking down at him, smiling at him. Leon licked his lips before he spoke,

"How did you know I was here?" His voice was full of uncertainty. She put her other hand on her hip. Leon wanted to grab that waist and pull her in toward him.

"Do you even have to ask that at this point?"

"... I guess you're right." There was silence. Ada bit her lip,

"You really are angry this time aren't you?" Leon was. Trying really hard to be angry. He sighed,

"Do you even have to ask at this point?" Ada nodded as if to say, 'that's fair'. After some more admittedly awkward silence, Ada touched his arm that was leaning on the bar.

"Let's go back to your hotel, handsome." Leon tensed up a bit at that.

"Are you going to ditch me afterward?" She exhaled,

"Don't think about that right now... Think about how I want you" Leon shifted his arm out of her grip.

"You can't keep doing this to me Ada." Ada was taken aback by his gesture and his words. She sighed frustrated,

   "It's complicated-"

"Yeah, I know. It's complicated, your life is complicated. Have you ever considered how I feel?" She didn't respond. Leon kept going,

"Am I just supposed to guess how you're feeling? Acting like we have something and then hanging up on me before I can get a real word in?" Leon's real anger was overtaking his extreme attraction toward her,

"It feels like absolute hell when you do this because I..." Ada looked at him, waiting for him to continue. Leon looked around for a minute and then sighed again.

"I love you! Okay?" He blurted out. She looked back at him, her eyebrows raised. He immediately felt his face get hot, but he just kept talking,

"I mean.. what I feel.. It feels like love. But I can't keep sitting here, while you treat me like a child, and wait for you to make up your mind." Ada's eyes softened, she reached out and touched his cheek with her hand,

"Leon.. I.." Leon nearly leaned into her touch, but he jerked his head out of the way instead.

   "Ada, stop." He stood up.

"Leon, please." She quickly answered that. Leon didn't think he ever heard her say that word to him. So he paused for a minute.

"What?" He said. She wrote down a phone number on a nearby napkin.

"Just... If you change your mind..." She slid the napkin over to him. Leon sighed, but he took the napkin and shoved it in his jacket pocket.

"Bye, Ada." He turned his back to her and walked away without another word. Leaving her just like he left him all those times. Ada sat down at the bar, her chest tight and her heart hurting.

"Dammit..." She muttered, and then looked at the bartender.

"I'll have what he had." She said, disappointment evident in her voice. She leaned her elbows on the bar. The bartender gave her a little bit of a smirk and slid a drink over to her,

"You know, if he doesn't wanna hook up with you..." Ada held up her hand,

"Save it." She looked back where Leon had walked out. She honestly didn't expect him to say any of that, or leave her there. She also thought that said a few things about her as a person, and the way her heart felt like it was in her throat was enough to tell her what she thought of Leon.

The I love you was swirling around in her head. She couldn't believe he said that either.

After Leon rushed out of the bar, he did everything in his power to keep his feet moving in the direction of his hotel, and not back in the direction of Ada. Surely she had to understand that what she was doing to him was fucked up, now that he yelled it into her face.

God, why did he yell it into her face?

And he said I love you?!

Way to show her Leon, confessing your love right there.

   She probably already knew though.

That's why it's so easy for her to fuck with you!

She looked goddamn gorgeous though, didn't she.

Leon smacked himself in the forehead. He finally made it back to his hotel, and flopped backwards onto the bed after he slammed the door behind him. He stared up at the ceiling. When he put his hand in his pocket he felt the napkin with her number on it. He pulled it out and held it above him, looking at the writing. He sighed,

He wanted to see her, of course he did.

   But not tonight.

Let her sit around, waiting for him to call this time.

If she even would sit around waiting.

He crumpled up the napkin and stood up, throwing it onto the nearby dresser. He tried to convince himself this was right with a smile,

"Yeah, take that Ada." He said under his breath. He would just have a nice quiet night, and go to sleep. Let her sweat it out, and be nervous for once.

   Did Ada even get nervous?

Leon pushed those thoughts out of his head. This was a good decision. He quickly got ready to go to sleep and laid in bed.

He glanced at his phone, and then the dresser with the number on it. Leon shook his head and closed his eyes. Then he continued to lay there in silence, until he couldn't stop his right eye from peeking open to look over at his phone again.

"Stop it, Kennedy." He mumbled to himself, turning onto his side to face away from his phone and Ada's number. He closed his eyes again.

Leon found himself tossing and turning for a majority of the night.
