Mr. Sertori opened a fresh bucket of bait. He brought several fishing rods and was wondering which one to use tonight. He settled on his favorite, a special, custom made device designed especially for him by his son in law.
His wife hated his new habit of late night fishing but it gave him peace. For some reason he couldn't explain, the water made him feel a connection to his eldest daughter, who wasn't around anymore. He needed to be alone with the sea and the fish, it didn't work during the day when he was surrounded by employees and distractions.
His youngest daughter, Kim, still lived in the area but Cleo couldn't stay. When you have a science prodigy in the family, who is married to another science prodigy, they tend to go places in life. Faraway places. She was the pride of the family, her and her husband have been dubbed the Curies' of marine biology.
It was a full moon tonight. He loved the full moon. It made the connection he felt with his daughter stronger. He didn't understand why, it was like the full moon intensified his feelings, made it seem like his little girl was still with him.
He'd been at it for hours but had no luck in catching any fish. It was an unusually quite night, like the fish had deserted the ocean. At least he could still enjoy the beautiful view of the moon over Mako island.
He was so caught up with the view, he didn't even see the tentacle of water rise up from the sea, right from underneath his boat. The menacing tentacle rose up and up, slowly and then, all of a sudden with enormous speed, it wrapped itself like a snake around Mr. Sertori and pulled him under.
