🎵 let go - ark patrol

sasha limped along the lonely road that lead to god knows where. the pain from her twisted ankle intensified and shot up through her right leg with every step she took. the wrap she had with her started to loosen up, and she would stop to make it tighter, but she has no time to waste. she has to find food before the sun sets. plus, the pain was so unbearable at the touch alone, so she didn't even want to bother it until she got back to her shelter.

she had walked- well, limped, for nearly an hour now. it was a bit darker now since she left to search for food. in no time, it will be completely dark soon due to the rain clouds blocking the sun. time was ticking, and she could feel the presence of more zombies around her.

it had to be her lucky day because just across the street was a supermarket. a small smile forms on her determined face and she hopes to god there's at least a few canned foods inside. if her luck was so great, there maybe even some medical supplies as well.

she slowly limps toward the worn down building. a window was busted, and the rest of the panes had a weird symbol spray painted on them. must be someone trying to be intimidating and scare others off, or someone was simply bored. sasha shakes her head as she approaches the door. the metal bar attached to the tired door was dented, and a busted lock laid on the pavement. she figures that this shop was locked up when the apocalypse started a few months ago, and paranoid, hungry people broke in.

the door was heavy against her tired body, but she pushes it open. it pushes an empty can against the tiled floor. the noise made her heart stop as it was so loud in the silent, empty store. the door softly shuts behind her, and sasha scavenges for food.

it was hard to see what was on the shelves on each aisle. there was no electricity, so that meant no light. she knew she shouldn't have left her flashlight back at the shelter. the dimming light from outside helped her as she scanned each aisle.

it was way too quiet for sasha's liking. she figures that she should've adapted to the change by now, but she couldn't stand the silence. every little noise made her jump, and even if she was far from the zombies, the silence made her think. back to the pre-apocalyptic times, where she took her amazing, carefree life for granted. back to when she was a nurse at a children's hospital, and would bake cookies for her neighbors. when she would practice her archery in her backyard as her boyfriend watched proudly. when she would have to drive and hour and a half to visit her family during the holidays. when she would walk her golden doodle to the park a few blocks from her home. when one of her main priorities was her garden. all of it was gone, and all she had left were the memories.

the only noises present were the scuffling of her feet against the dirty floor. she gripped onto the straps of her backpack tightly, cautiously looking for anything at this point. she had to be careful and insightful for a possible attack whenever she approached a different aisle.
