after nearly two hours of escaping from the hoard of quick zombies, the group finally reach their destination; fort c, as reiner calls it. the tall trees circled an open area for them to settle down in.

with it being called "fort c", sasha figured there would've actually been a fort, or something relatively close to it. when she saw it was nothing but an open space with leaves, branches, and dirt covering the ground, her confusion grew.

jean pants as he sits sasha down onto a log. he tosses his bag onto the forest floor, taking a seat as well. he kept his distance, occupying his spot near the edge of the log. sasha bites back her scoff.

marco and reiner sit on the log across from them. reiner pulls out a metal water bottle from the side of his bag and hands it to marco. he denies it at first, but reiner forces it into his hands anyway.

he takes it with a soft chuckle. "you need it more than i do, reiner. you did all the running and carried me for crying out loud."

reiner shakes his head. "i just want you to stay hydrated."

marco smiles warmly at his caring friend. "well, i appreciate it, but i'm okay now. i promise." he holds out the water bottle. "i'm taking it day by day."

reiner can only reluctantly take the water from him and give him a big grin. it fills him, as well as everyone else, up with joy to see marco doing well again. the progress felt uneasy with not knowing what the next day would be like, but so far it's been uphill for him. they couldn't be more grateful to see him smiling.

connie drops sasha's book bag in front of her. she thanks him verbally with a smile. her heart skips a beat when she notices that her bag was unzipped, and feared that some of her supplies may have fallen out. she rapidly scavenges through her bag to see if she had lost anything.

reiner's focus is turned to sasha. "everything okay?"

she sits up with a frustrated sigh. "i've lost almost everything 'cause my bag was open. i didn't even realize." she mumbles.

"well, what do you have?"

she looks in her nearly empty bag. "wraps, tape, wipes..." the realization struck her silent as she notices that her journal is missing too. "it's gone." she whispers. "no." the clutch on her bag grew tighter.

marco notices the distraught look on her face. "are you okay, sasha?"

she looks down at her lap. "my journal's gone too."

the guys probably didn't understand the importance behind it, but they could tell by her reaction that it meant a lot to her. they didn't know about the nights she stayed up writing, pictures she had taped inside, memories she relived. that journal meant so much to sasha, and now it's gone.
