"So, just for clarification, movie night tonight at Kate's place?" Ned asked, poking at his lunch with a fork.

"That's the plan," I said, nodding unenthusiastically.

"Sweet!  We should watch Star Wars," Suggested Ned and I nodded again, wordlessly this time.

"Hey guys," Peter slid into the seat next to me, taking my hand that rested on the table and giving it a squeeze.  I gave him a small smile, trying to remember what Nat said last night.  The pain would make me stronger.  If I was stronger maybe I'd be able to resist him.

"Where've you been?" Ned asked.

"I've-um just asking Ms Johnson about the homework," He improvised.  I rolled my eyes and removed my hand from his grip.  His absolute perfection was so so aggravating.

"You ready for tonight?" I asked.

"T-tonight?" Peter stammered and I saw his eyes light up with realization, "Oh!  Yeah, yeah the movie.  Yeah, I'm ready."

"Good," I said bluntly, "I've got a history test to study so I'll see you guys later."

"I'm in her history class," I heard Ned say from behind me, "Oh crap does that mean I have a test too?"

I felt kind of bad for making up that test thing but I was too tired to care.  I barely slept a wink last night and there's no way I would make it through an entire movie in the evening.

Rather than studying for my fake test, I was hiding out on the roof to take a nap.  A huge mistake on my part.

When I awoke, I found my phone buzzing with the sixth call from Peter in the last hour.  The sun was hanging low in the sky and the school was dark.  My backpack under my head was squashed flat, my suit cushioning me from the hard cement.

"Hello?" I jabbed the green answer button and held the phone to me ear.

"Kate!  Where are you!  I've been calling all day!  Are you skipping school?  Did I do somethi-"

"Chill, Pete, I fell asleep on the roof and accidentally slept too long."

I heard a sigh from the other end of the line and another voice muttering anxiously.

"You scared the hell out of me, Lang," Peter said, "Ned and I are at your place already.  Your mom let us in before she left for Hazel's karate."

"I'll be right there.  Don't let Ned find my web solution."

I hung up the phone and hopped down into an alleyway, running out onto the street.  Unlike Peter, I refused to change in the alleyways so I ran around in search of a cab.

When I had finally waved one down and been driven home the sun was almost set.  I should've taken the train.

I sprinted into the building and impatiently pressed the elevator button.

I'd have to talk to my mom later about my school situation.  No doubt they called her to say I was suspended again.

I fumbled with my keys for a moment before unlocking my apartment door and stumbling inside.

Peter and Ned sat patiently on the couch, chattering about something unbeknownst to me.

"Kate!" Ned exclaimed and Peter whirled around to face me

"Hey, Katie," He smiled and waved me over.

"Hey guys, sorry I'm late. There was um traffic," I managed, setting down my bag and taking a seat next to Peter, "You ready to watch this movie?"

"Hell yes!" Ned exclaimed as I grabbed the TV remote and flicked it on, "How do we get to Star Wars?"

"Gimme that," I held out my hand and Ned dropped the remote in it.  I pushed buttons until we came across 'The Phantom Menace', "This work?"

"What is this site, Kate?" Peter asked curiously.

I shrugged, "You don't need to know that, now can we watch the movie?"

"Yeah, yeah, okay."

I opened the movie and sunk back into the couch, chucking one of Hazel's bouncy balls at the light switch, flicking it off.

"Good aim," Commented Ned.

"Thank you."

The movie started and I felt an arm around my shoulder. I looked and saw Peter staring at me. When I caught his gaze, he went red in the face but didn't look away.

"Play along," He mouthed. I nodded and sunk further into his arms, leaning my head against his chest.  His heartbeat was unnaturally fast. I'm sure mine was too.

I couldn't pay attention to the movie. I was too busy trying not to sweat. I didn't know why I was overthinking everything suddenly but I wished I would stop.

I glanced up at Peter and immediately averted my gaze.  He was already looking down at me with a small grin.  I could feel vibrations of laughter ricocheting through his chest.  My face felt hot.  I was flustered.  Outside, the moon seemed to shine through the window brighter than it ever had before. The TV was loud but to me it could've been white noise and it wouldn't have made a difference.  My head spun.

And that, my friends, is how I became totally aware of my crush on Peter Benjamin Parker.
