•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••I leaned casually against the wall, fingering the beads on my bracelet nervously. I think Ned was talking to me but I couldn't bear to listen. I was too busy anxiously waiting for Peter. If only I had a strong sixth sense like he did.
After a while more of his one-sided conversation, Ned shut up and resorted to playing with the Death Star. It was an interesting contraption and I could see why the boys were so fascinated with it. There were secret hatches and little guns, and so many floors.
"Yo, Kate, the craziest thing just happened, you should've stayed out on patrol with me," Came Peter's quiet voice from above. He wasn't looking at me, he was too busy crawling across the ceiling to shut the door, "There were these guys in a bank and they had some crazy weapons, definitely not normal tech, then they blew up Mr Delmars!"
My eyes widened and I tried to get the attention of the boy on the roof.
"Mr. Delmar's okay and so is Murph but the shop is totally demolished-"
"Peter," I said through clenched teeth. He looked down at me and I glared at him, "Stop—stop spoiling the plot of the film we're making."
"What film, Kate?" He dropped to the floor, back to Ned, "Did swinging into the wall mess up your brain or something."
I cringed, making painfully obvious eye contact with Ned as Peter pushed my hair away from my forehead to check for damage.
"Peter," I breathed, barely audible, "Turn around."
He hesitated and pulled away, narrowing his eyes at me before spinning in place. I couldn't see his expression but I saw that he'd frozen to the spot. The Death Star came crashing to the ground, shattering into pieces. Both boys stared at each other for a very long moment.
"What was that!?" May's voice came from somewhere outside the room.
"Uhh, nothing!" Peter called back, his voice strained, "Nothing!"
"You're the Spider-Man?" Ned got to his feet, "From YouTube?"
"No, no-" Peter went to protest, his suit falling to the floor, but Ned ignored him.
"And you must be the Arachnid?" He turned to me pointedly, "The Spider-Man's sidekick?"
"Well, I wouldn't say sidekick-"
"We're not, I'm not—she's not, you-"
"You were on the ceiling," Ned held a shaking finger up, pointing at the roof.
"No I wasn't, Ned what're you doing in my room?" Peter spoke quickly, his voice panicky.
"May let me in, you said we were gonna finish the Death Star!" Ned's voice matched the urgency in Peter's.
"Kate, why didn't you warn me?" Peter turned to look at me, eyes wide.
"I did! What did you think that crappy excuse was!"
Peter groaned and put his head in his hands, stumbling towards Ned as May opened the door. I casually sauntered over, taking a spot on the other side of Ned.
