(Modern Day, They're Not Spies)
'Curt, I'm going to be back in four days!'
'I know. But I miss you. Do you really have to stay in England for another four days?'
Owen could practically see Curt's expression from the other side of the phone. The big, pleading eyes and the slight unintentional pout. He didn't know whether it made him want to laugh or pity him.
'That was the agreed upon arrangement.'
'I don't remember agreeing!'
'That's because you're not me and you're not my boss. I didn't want to agree either but I didn't really have a choice. If there was something I could have said to have gotten out of this I'd have said it.'
'You don't think 'I'm sorry, I can't go to England, my husband is incredibly clingy' would have worked?'
Owen laughed, 'Darling, as much as I would love to see the look on my boss's face if I said that, no. I don't think it would have changed her mind.'
'Your boss is just mean!'
'That is one way to put it.'
'Well, I would- Hold on one second. I think someone just knocked on the door. This might be all the kazoos I ordered. I will call you back in one minute.'
'All right. Wait- You ordered wha-'
'Talk to you in a minute! Love you!'
Curt hastily hung up before walking to the door and opening it. Only to reveal the exact person who he had hung up the phone to avoid.
'Owen!' he squealed excitedly, 'What are you doing here?'
'I got back early. I wanted to surprise you.'
Curt didn't even wait for Owen to come inside before pulling him into a hug so tight Owen thought he might never let go.
'I missed you so much.'
'I missed you too, love.'
Owen pulled away, kissing Curt's cheek quickly before wheeling his suitcase over to the bedroom and sitting down next to Curt.
'How did you manage to get back early?'
'I'm just that good at my job that I didn't need the extra few days.' Owen smirked.
'Really?'
'No, I finished early, they wouldn't let me back so I told them there was a family emergency.'
'Owen!'
'Was I wrong? You sounded slightly desperate on the phone.'
'Okay, maybe it wasn't entirely a lie.'
'You did sound quite desperate. Especially when you mentioned the kazoos you ordered?'
'Yeah, yeah, we can discuss that later. I think there's more important things we need to discuss right now.'
'Oh yeah? Like what?' Owen grinned in anticipation.
'What we're having for dinner and which movie we're watching.'
Owen nodded, 'I vote we order chinese and watch Sleeping Beauty.'
'I agree. I didn't feel like cooking tonight.'
'Anyway, the kazoos...'
Curt rolled his eyes dramatically, 'Oh, all right. I ordered myself a hundred kazoos for a tenner.'
Owen looked at him, deeply confused, 'I- I just want to understand what use you have for a hundred kazoos...'
'I don't know! This is why I need you here, to talk me out of stupid decisions like that.'
'That all you need me for?'
'No, you get the phone and I'll get the TV remote.'~
