(Modern Day, They're Not Spies)

'How on earth are we going to do this?' Tatiana asked Barb, shaking her head. 'Those two are so stubborn.'
'They're also painfully unsubtle and oblivious. We can't let them keep going on like this.'
'I know. I swear Curt swoons every time Owen looks at him. They need to hurry up and realise how they both feel.'
'What if we ask them to go out for drinks tonight, get them really drunk and make them admit it.'
'Curt doesn't drink.'
'Get Owen really drunk and make him admit it.'
'Do we have a plan that doesn't involve making someone consume copious amount of alcohol?'
'Nope!'
'Okay then. Let's do it.'

'Why are they asking us to go out for drinks?' Owen asked Curt apprehensively. 'They don't do that unless they have an announcement or they want information from us that they can't get unless I'm drunk.'
'You don't think they've figured it out, do you?' Curt asked nervously.
'Not unless they've been spying on us.'
The fear in Curt's eyes grew.
'No, I didn't mean- I mean I'm sure they've not.'
'I hope not. I just- I don't think I'm ready just yet. This is all so new.'
'I know, love. Me too.' Owen kissed the top of Curt's head and put an arm around him. 'We don't have to say anything until you're ready.'
'I love you.'
'I love you too.'

A few hours later, they were sitting in Owen's car outside the bar.
'I'll go in first,' Curt said. 'You come in in a few minutes.'
'All right.'
'Okay,' Curt looked at Owen nervously.
'It's okay, you don't have to look so worried.'
Curt nodded, 'See you in a few minutes.'
Owen nodded, so Curt got out and went inside. He walked across the cracked white tiles to the booth in the back corner where Tatiana and Barb were already sat talking.
'Hey, guys,' he said, sitting down.
'Hi,' Tatiana said. 'Any idea when Owen's gonna be here?'
'Haven't talked to him today.'
She nodded.
'What's the occasion anyway?'
'What do you mean?' Barb asked.
'The last time we just went out for no reason was when we were nineteen.'
'The occasion is that we've hardly seen you two in ages,' Tatiana said.
'That's not true!'
'She's kind of right, Curt,' Owen said, sitting next to Curt but being careful to keep a reasonable distance between them. Not so much that it looked deliberate, but enough that they didn't look like they were dating. 'Work's been busy.'
'Not like you to be the last here, Owen,' Barb said.
'Took a while to get my hair right.'
'Any particular reason you were being even more of a perfectionist than usual?' Tatiana asked.
Owen blushed, 'I wasn't. Just...'
'Anyway,' Curt said, 'Shall we order?'
Tatiana looked between the two, a mischievous glint in her eye. 'We'll go. Same as usual?'
Curt and Owen nodded as the other two stood up. As they walked off, Owen could very faintly hear Barb saying 'How do we get them to admit they like each other?'
He turned to Curt, wide-eyed.
'What is it?'
'They know. Not that we're- They're trying to set us up!'
'Oh god, no, no, no. They can't-'
'Curt, hold on before you spiral. We don't have to say anything unless you're ready, but we could have a bit of fun here.'
Curt looked up at him, 'What sort of fun?'
Owen just grinned.

A few minutes later, Tatiana and Barb came back to the table, putting four glasses down on the table. Curt and Owen were still grinning.
'What are you two so happy about?' Barb asked as they sat down.
'Oh, nothing,' Curt said.

'Okay, I'm gonna go get a refill,' Curt said half an hour later. 'Anyone else want anything?'
'Could I get one too?' Owen asked, looking up at Curt whilst the other two shook their heads.
'Yep. I'll be back in a minute.
'Okay, what was that?' Tatiana asked once Curt was out of earshot.
'What was what?' Owen asked, feigning innocence.
'That look you just gave him!' Barb hissed.
'What look?'
Tatiana sighed dramatically, 'Why don't you just hurry up and ask him out!'
'What? No! I- He- No. I don't-'
'You both very clearly like each other,' Barb said.
'No, we most definitely do not. I don't-'
'Here,' Curt said as he handed Owen a glass and slid down into the seat.
'Thanks, darling,' Owen said before kissing Curt's cheek.
'No problem.'
Tatiana and Barb stared at them. Then at each other. Then back at Curt and Owen, who, by that point, had broken down laughing.
'Wha- What?' Tatiana eventually managed to stammer.
'Oh, I'm sorry, did we forget to tell you?' Curt said, smiling sweetly.
'Tell us what exactly?' Barb asked, her eyes darting between the two.
'That you two have been completely oblivious for five months,' Owen said triumphantly.
Tatiana and Barb just stared at each other, dumbfounded.
'How did you actually manage to hide that?' Tatiana asked after about half a minute.
Curt smiled as he moved in closer to Owen, 'Guess we're better at keeping secrets than you thought.'
