IT'T NOT WHAT YOU THINK
The people who were coming back for an extra year were given their own tower to share. Even if they weren't in the same house. Professor McGonagall had said that if they weren't grown enough to get over silly rivalries and grudges, then they weren't old enough to graduate. Auror agencies had extended the offer of them not needing a certificate to work for them. Though everyone had faced hardships while fighting, little to none wanted to meet them again. Not many returning were ok. The headmistress had given them all resources they could go to if needed.
The 8th years, as they call themselves, had grown close. Well, they all formed their own friend groups, but they were all friends of sorts. Surprisingly the silver and golden trios merged into one. I guess putting their differences aside, they had quite a bit in common. At first, many were shocked to see them playing games together or even hanging out without fighting.
But it was a pleasant breath of fresh air for everyone. It gets tiring to see the same two to six people fight every day for seven years. (Or even the entire houses fighting.) Though the gossipers would say something else. There haven't been any juicy fights since the silver trio and, the golden trio became the white-gold squad. Most of the house rivalry calmed down. Now, all it is is individual ones. Which is not as fun. I mean, having two houses despise each other made for great gossip.
However, they now have Draco and Harry. If you didn't know or live under a rock, they got together after the war. People are very split about the couple. Some say that they'll end in a few days", others say that they'll grow old together. Newspaper companies are having a field day with it. Articles upon articles about the two. Their fights, their conversations, their dates, anything concerning the two, really. The Prophet did a 180 on the news about them. At first, stating that Harry would be the next dark lord while being assisted by Draco, then calling the duo a "power couple" and "strongest relationship ever". Honestly, most of the public has lost trust in them after the Voldemort incident.
It has also been a lovely gossip topic. Which gossiper doesn't want to hear about their latest date or those sound coming from Harry's room? Of course, with the rising popularity of their relationship, rumours were bound to start getting around.
Now, this is where the problem started. Someone began a rumour that Harry and Draco were taking a break. No one knew the actual reason, but speculations of cheating were going around.
Most of the white-gold squad were down in the shared common, finishing up their homework for potions. Truthfully, only Hermione was actually doing it while the others were relaxing on the couch.
"Hey," Pansy paused to make sure everyone was listening. "Did you hear the rumours?" "Yeah, the one about Draco and Harry?" Ron set down his chocolate quill. "Guys, we're here to stud-" "Do you think they're true?" Blaise looked between Pansy and Ron. "five galleons it's true!" Pansy shook her head. "Alright, five galleons. Those two lovesick idiots wouldn't even think about it."
"Guys stop gossiping and betting on our friends and-"
"Ugh!" Harry stormed into the room, quickly followed by Draco. Harry suddenly stopped to face Draco. "I can't believe you would do this!" "I only did it because I thought you did it too." Harry rolled his eyes and huffed. "I can't believe that you would cheat just to win at a bet."
Everyone, in the common, turned their heads to face them. Hermione put her hands over her mouth. "Oh my..." She said under her breath. Many were simply too shocked to do anything but watch. Ron's mouth was basically on the floor. Pansy, with her mouth still hanging open, handed a few galleons to Blaise.
"Well, you did too!" Draco threw his hands up in the air in frustration. "Ok! I cheated once. But that was weeks ago and, it was with Ginny!"
"Ginny wouldn't do that." Ron looked at Hermione. "And isn't she dating Luna?" Hermione chimed in. Ron silently nodded.
Draco gave him an exaggerated look. "It wasn't for a bet!" Harry looked at him in a "Are you serious?" expression. "It wasn't just for the bet..." Draco paused to look at his feet. "I also wanted to know if I could." "Really?!" Harry took a deep breath before opening his mouth as if was about to start talking.
"Guys!" Ginny then ran into the room, still in her quidditch uniform. "Have a look around." Harry and Draco glance around the room sheepishly realizing, everyone had heard. "Harry?" "Draco?" Hermione and Pansy immediately say.
"Um, how do we explain this?" Harry looked at Draco, who was as lost as he was. Ginny sighed. "Now, what were you actually talking about?" Harry took a deep breath. He never thought that he would have to have this conversation but with his luck. "Quidditch."
The room went dead silent.
"Wow, mate. I really thought you knocked up my sister and cheated on Draco." "RON."
