To say that James and Brian had influence over the other prisoners in Henry Morgan penitentiary was a gross understatement. They had complete and utter control of the prisoners. And they used this control. Usually they used it for small things. Getting extra lunch, getting one of the guards to buy them toothbrushes and toothpaste, and getting to take a shower in private, forcing the other prisoners to wait for them to finish before getting a turn. In the three weeks they had been in prison, only four people had tried to stand up to them. One had been attacked the second he tried to resist them, and was hospitalized for a week. Two of them had been attacked days later. One of them had been attacked in the showers, beaten into a bloody pulp by Brian and James. The blood stains on the shower floor could still be seen. The other had been in the weight room. While he was doing push-ups, James had jumped on his back and clawed at his face, while Brian had delivered a series of vicious kicks to his stomach and neck. Once he was in the ground, groaning in pain, James had dug his teeth into the man's earlobe. After fifteen seconds of viciously thrashing his head back and forth, he managed to tear it off. The last man had been attacked by three other prisoners who, wanting to be on Brian and James's good side, attacked him in the mess hall. After those four men had been taken care of, no one dared to challenge them. They even had a group of nearly thirty people who almost worshiped them. No matter how extreme the order given to them, they followed it without question. James didn't quite understand why they did this. When he asked Brian about it, he simply said,
"Because, they are weak and we are strong. The weak will always naturally fallow the strong. They will try and learn from the strong, and their combined feelings of fear and awe of the strong will make it nearly impossible for them to refuse anything the strong tell them to do."
This was a convoluted explanation, and James disagreed, even though he wasn't quite sure what other explanation there could be.

Around the third week, Brian began to act... odd. He became short tempered, and snapped at James often. James wasnt offended. He guessed it was because of the endless hours of being cooped up inside the 15 by 15 foot cell. James was content to not say anything about it. That was, until the incident. It was the middle of the night. James and Brian had both retired to their beds, Brian sleeping on the top bunk, James sleeping in the bottom. James had always been a light sleeper, so when he heard Brian slowly get out of the creaking metal bed, he awoke immediately. Although his eyes shot open, his didn't move a muscle. His was curious as to what Brian was doing and didn't want him to know he was awake. He heard the sound of Brian bare feet touching the hard concrete floor, and then heard..... Nothing. For three whole minutes, there was not a sound to be heard. Although his back was to Brian, he knew he was staring at him. After three minutes, Brian began weeping. James, concerned now, slowly rolled over and sat up. He quietly waited for Brian to finish weeping. Once he finished, he asked,
"Whats wrong?"
"I was going to kill you. I was going to strangle you in your sleep. I-I-I'm so sorry. It's just, I haven't killed in weeks. I need to kill something."
Janes was mildly annoyed that Brian had tried to kill him, but wasn't at all surprised. He knew about Brian's nearly sexual obsession with killing, and had suspected that this would happen.
"We'll find something for you to kill, but until we do, you need to keep yourself together."
Brian nodded, and without another word, went back up to his bunk. James fell back asleep. He was glad Brian hadn't tried to kill him. If he had, James would have had to stab him with the shank that he was hiding under his pillow.
