BILLS, BOOZE & BETRAYAL | CHAPTER 09

"Alright, I'll be there in half an hour, ma, don't worry." I say and end the call, walking into the elevator with a huff. It's been a long day at work and I love my mother but her calling me every 10 minutes to make sure I'll be at a stupid social event on time doesn't make me adore her at the moment. I close my eyes and flex my neck a little to release the tension when I notice the elevator slowing down.

Looking up at the digital display, I see the number 2 on it and sigh. With my luck, it's going to be exactly who I think it could be. The door slides open and my eyes meet Harry's, taking me back to the night last Saturday when I was thinking, even in my drunken haze, that his were the most beautiful eyes I'd ever seen.

He awkwardly waves at me and walks into the elevator.

"Hey." He whispers and I look up in shock.

"Hey me?" The tall oaf nods with a quiet chuckle and I nod slowly. "Right, hi."

Harry turns away but I keep staring at the back of his head and I practically feel my body filling with anger – and wonder (has his neck always been this sexy?) – but before I can talk myself out of it, my mouth betrays me and spews my thoughts out.

"We kissed four days ago, for the second time and you've been intentionally ignoring me ever since. I don't like it, pay attention to me!" I say in the most childish and stupidest statement in the history of mankind and Harry's initial shock is overcome by a sheepish look on his red face as he turns around to finally look at me.

"I thought you wanted nothing to do with me. I specifically remember you, on multiple occasions, telling me to suck it up and fuck off."

"Yes, well that was before we kissed and I found out how soft your lips actually are." I say and immediately slap my palm on a traitor of my mouth.

This is it, Louis, my mind muses dramatically. This is how you die. From complete embarrassment.

Harry blushes at my statement – again – and I stumble to form a proper statement.

"Well, if you must know your lips are very nice as well." He stutters out in between short, silent chuckles and I glare at him.

"See? This is it, I don't like this. Ugh! This is so awkward, I hate it. Can't we just go back to hating each other's guts?" I say and slam my leg against the side of the elevator, momentarily forgetting the fact that I'm a 23 year old individual and currently in an elevator. Before either I or Harry can chastise myself for that, though, the elevator thuds to a stop and the lights flicker off before a small emergency lift switches on.

"What the -"

"Louis Tomlinson, I will kill you. What did you do?!" Harry panics while I blow out air, looking around at the closed, metal box and taking out my phone only to find that there is no network in the lift.

"Great, it's a multi-million dollar building and there is still no cell service in the fucking lift."

"We're going to die in here." Harry says dramatically and I roll my eyes, looking around again before noticing the small emergency button by the floor buttons.

"We're not going to die, Harry. I wouldn't want to die with you."

"So you do think we'll die?!"

"Shh, shut up." I say and press the emergency button, waiting for something to happen. A minute later, the line is picked up and someone on the other end answers.
