You had been tasked to meet with Aziraphale by Gabriel who had told you to check up on him and make sure everything was in order. It has been around 30 years since Adam and Eve had been banished from the garden and Gabriel wanted a report on why their son Cain had killed his brother Abel.

5th century - Babylon

Earth looked no different to the last time you were there, granted you were only on earth for a few hours when first surveying what God had created before being whisked away and given an office job.

You stood in the middle of a desert, looking around there was nothing but the waists. You had been told that Aziraphale would be here. Changing your clothes to something more appropriate for the desert climate you walked toward what seemed like the way to go.

Your intuition was correct as you soon came upon two figures, one dressed in while the other im black. They stood close to a small shack that seemed like the place.

"The Angel Aziraphale?" you asked. The two men turned around and you immediately recognised who he was.

"Yes, that is me" the angel said, he smiled, straightening out the smart suit he wore. "And you are?"

"I am in the angel (y/n)" you said, you peered slightly at the other figure, you knew fine well that he was a demon, most likely the snake you guessed. Would you need to report this? "I came from heaven to enquire about the events around Cain and Abel"

Immediately Aziraphale's face fell. "Right, yes of course" he flashed you a nervous smile. "Crowley , I suggest you should go, you have done enough damage as it is"

The demon shrugged and walked off, putting his hand up to wave as he left.

"So, tell me what happened?" you asked, a notepad and quill appearing from the thin air.

"The demon messed everything up" Aziraphale said quietly. "He placed anger onto Cain and made him Kill Abel" he said this slowly, his face being slightly worried at the end.

"I see, and was that the demon?" you asked, pointing your quill toward the way he went.

"Yes, he is" Aziraphale said.

"So the demon is named?"

"Crowley " Aziraphale said. "C R O W L E Y" he spelt.

"Yep, got it" you said, looking up at the angel who gently swayed on the balls of his feet. He looked quite worried.

"So did you try to stop this demon from tempting Cain?" you asked, starting to doodle at the corner of your notepad small shapes.

"Uh, yes I did try" Aziraphale said quickly. "But I was sidetracked"

"I see" you said, stopping doodling and writing it down. "Sidetracked with?" you asked, the question hung in the air for a second before Aziraphale said something. "I had to do a miracle" he said quietly.

You nodded and wrote it down. "So you left the two sons of the first humans to kill each other?"

"I did not know that what happened would happen," he said, wringing his hands slightly.

"Unfortunately it did happen," you said. You tapped the quill against your chin for a moment and wrote something else and nodded. "It has been good to meet you Aziraphale," you said, clicking your fingers, the quill and pad disappeared.

"What will you do now?" he asked.

You clicked your fingers again and the notepad appeared. You start to read off it. "report back to Gabriel that you were busy blessing crops and therefore did not know that the demon, I will not mention it's name, Crowley had tempted Cain" you said. "Therefore it was a mistake that Cain killed Abel and not your fault" you smiled and clicked your i fingers again to make the notepad disappear. "Until next time Aziraphale," you said, nodding. "And make sure that the snake does not meddle with anything else, okay?"

Aziraphale smiled and nodded, watching you leave earth. His mind whirred. How did you know that he was blessing fields? He may have lied about the blessing and was actually there when Cain was clobbering his brother with a large rock. Aziraphale made a worried face and wrung his hands a little before starting to walk away.

You had written up your notes and sent them to Gabriel. It didn't take long as there was little for you to write about the incident. You sent the stack of paper off to Gabriel carried by a dove and went back to trudging through paperwork.

You liked Aziraphale. He seemed like an amiable angel in his smart clothes and posh accent. You wondered why he was so worried, you didn't look too threatening you thought. Never mind, you had work to do, you would see him soon anyway, if Aziraphale and Crowley were hanging around each other who knew what could happen.
