Arvin didn't know what to do anymore. He was now walking on the road while stretching out his arm and holding out his thumb. Signaling that he needed a ride, but so far not a single car stopped next to him. Arvin sighed, he's been on the road for the past three hours now and he was getting tired. The sun was already setting and it was getting dark.
Finally when he lost hope, he saw headlights approach him. The car came to a stop and Arvin was relieved... hoping that he was going to get a ride.
The car's window opened, "Hey there! Need a ride?" the female voice said.
Arvin sniffed, "Yeah, I do" he said while keeping his hands in the pockets of this jean jackets.
The woman smiled, "Well hop on in," she said in a soothing tone.
Arvin smiled for a split second and hopped into the car. He sat in the passengers seat and then buckled up.
The woman smiled at him, "So what's your name?" She asked.
"Arvin. Arvin Russell" he simply stated with a firm voice.
The woman responded while holding out her hand for Arvin to shake, "Y/N. Y/N Y/L/N."
Arvin shook Y/N's hands. The electrifying feeling of their hands touching craved him for more, he just someone to comfort him and tell him that it's going to be okay. His stomach felt like it was swirling and their were butterflies flying around.
Y/N smiled to herself and put her hands back on the wheel, "So... where you headed?" She asked Arvin.
Arvin sniffed and clenched his jaw, "I don't really have a destination...I just need to get out of here" he replied.
You bit the inside of your cheek and looked towards your hands on the steering wheel. "Well...I'm heading to Cincinnati" you replied.
Arvin looked up from his hands to your face, "Then I guess that I'll be going to Cincinnati too" he said while smiling a little.
You smiled back at him and started the engine of you car.
After around 15 minutes of driving, there was a red light so you stopped the car. You then looked to your right to make sure that Arvin was okay. Arvin was in a deep sleep, his head leaning on the shoulder part of the seat and his mouth was opened a little bit, his eyelids becoming relaxed. Your heart fluttered a little bit and you started smiling and then carried on with driving as the traffic light turned green.

After the hour and 49 minute drive, you both finally reached Cincinnati. Then as another half an hour passed, you reached your apartment complex. You parked the car and stopped the engines. You then looked towards Arvin, who was still in a deep slumber.
You smiled yet again at the sight of him. You didn't want to wake him up, you could tell that he had a rough time over in Knockemstiff. When he first asked you for a ride, you looked at him, the bruises on his face. The fact that his hands were shaking tremendously, or the fact that there were fresh purple bruises on his knuckles.
Your heart ached as you remembered his appearance when he was hitchhiking.
You snapped out of your thoughts and reached your hand towards Arvin.
You shook his shoulder and started whispering, "Hey Arvin, were here" multiple times, repeatedly.
After a couple of minutes, you slowly got tired yourself. That wasn't until you shook his shoulder again and he immediately straight-end his posture. He said, "Preacher!" in a loud and booming voice.
You were startled, why was he saying something about a preacher? You decided to ignore it and instead comfort him.
As you said to him in a sweet and gentle voice, "Hey, Hey, there's no preacher okay? It's just me, Y/N. And I woke you up to tell you that were here in Cincinnati," you said to him.
"Oh" he said, and then there was a dead silence.
You took a deep breath and then let it out, "So...do you have money and a place to stay?" you ask him.
He cleared his throat, "I have a couple of bucks and that's about it. But don't worry, I'll figure it out. You've already done more than enough for me... so thank you." Arvin says.
You smiled and nodded. But you still wanted to help him out, "If you want, you could stay at my apartment for a little?"
Arvin wanted to say no, but he couldn't miss this opportunity. "Y-yeah, if that's okay with you." he responded.
You smiled at him, and that was all Arvin needed to make him feel safe and secure.
