<I'm starting to hate this case>

Jimin groans as he pulls his hair a little, you were again reading through the books Axel Scott has written, this time it was an unreleased copy. In fact, the technicians, while checking his laptop, had found a draft of something that was supposed to be a new book again, autobiographical. The book has been left only at its half, the author didn't have enough time to finish writing it.

<I admit it's pretty difficult>

you sighed letting your finger slide down the words written on the paper in front of you. Just as you expected, what happened yesterday has been forgotten, or at least b of you pretended to forget about the missed kiss and about how your mood turned down after your partner's comment.
Jimin spent the whole night thinking about it, he didn't mean to upset you, he was scared you would be offended for the way he tried kissing you. Those thoughts kept his eyes open the whole night, but when you met this morning at work, and you didn't mention any of the above, he sighed relieved.

<Goodmorning Mr. Kim>

you said as you saw the warden coming in your direction, since you and Jimin were standing in the middle of the hallway, you took a step aside thinking the warden would just walk by, instead, he stops

<Goodmorning miss Y/l/n and Mr. Park>

he greets you with his usual cold voice

<didn't you two say that your victim didn't have any family?>

you raised an eyebrow exchanging a look with Jimin

< he didn't, he wrote it in...>

<well his wife is here>

Taehyung interrupted Jimin making him roll his eyes, you blinked a couple of times

<his wife? she was supposed to be dead?>

<then we most likely have a zombie or a ghost sitting in the room 24>

the warden scoffed giving you a hint that he wasn't joking and that it was time to get to work, you thanked him and started walking away, but his emotionless voice made both of you stop on your tracks

<forgot to say, maybe we should start specifying that now it's his husband not wife anymore>

you and Jimin were surely confused after his words but didn't waste time asking further questions, instead went directly to room 24. You pushed the door open. At the table was sitting a man, a man who still had some feminine features. Wasn't very well built, instead was really skinny, with dark hair and hazel eyes.

<Goodmorning>

you said taking a sit followed by your partner after he closed the door and turned on one more light

<Goodmorning, I'm detective Park and this is my partner detective Y/l/n. We are working on your husband's case>

he said interviewing his fingers on the table, the man in front of you laughed

<so someone finally killed that bastard...>

the man leaned closer raising his hand showing "one"

<let me tell you one thing... he deserved it>

you shot Jimin a look trying to guess what he was thinking, but the boy wasn't paying attention to you but to the person on the other side of the table as if he was trying to read the other's mind. Jimin was good at doing so, he could read easily the body language and it helped you a lot of times to find out if someone was lying

<... but let me introduce myself first, my name is currently Benjamin Scott, I used to be known under the name of Isabelle Scott, yes I used his last name because that bastard didn't want to sign the divorce papers but since he is dead well...>

he said correcting his posture and fixing his black jacket

<you wanted a divorce?>

you asked taking your pen ready to note down everything he was about to say

<who wouldn't. Tell me, miss detective, would you like to spend the rest of your life with a lier?>

<of course not>

you mumbled looking at the paper writing his words down

<me neither>

Benjamin let his eyes roam around the room but his journey was interrupted by Jimin

<so why did you marry him in the first place?>

the other man sighed, his eyes got sadder as he recalled past events

<we met at the hospital, I was preparing for my transition while Axel was there supposedly for a medical check-up because of his disease. Later I would find out it was all just a lie. We talked for hours that day and exchanged numbers, slowly we fell in love, got married fastly because he said he wouldn't live a long life because of the illness>

you frowned

<in a hurry to marry as soon as possible I invested my money, which I saved for the transition, in the wedding>

Jimin looked at you and you made eye contact with him just to realize he was thinking the exact same thing as you. Money was one of the biggest motives. Benjamin sighed

<anyways I was happy with him, he used masculine pronounces and accepted me. Later I found out he was just pretending to be ill. Of course, I wasn't supposed to know, I accidentally took his computer instead of mine, once I opened it, I found out about all his tricks>

<and you decided to kill him>

Jimin added and the other man scoffed

<I knew you would suspect me, no I didn't kill him, I wouldn't be here today if I actually did>

he wasn't wrong, you had no proof he was alive, from the books Axel Scott wrote it was clear he said his wife was dead, not once mentioned her gender transition or her name. You wouldn't be able to reach him if he hadn't come by himself. Benjamin surely knew you would suspect him, he could ignore the situation and save himself from questioning but he decided to help

<Mr. Benjamin, we are grateful for the help>

you said passing him a half-smile, Jimin shot you a death glare but you ignored it

<I didn't kill Axel, the only thing I did was to ask for a divorce, a divorce he didn't give me but he disappeared from my life. That was enough for me, I didn't get to see his face or hear anything. I was free even tho somehow still tied to him>
