Libby walked into school that day and unlocked her locker. She grabbed her books and started heading to her first class.
"Health. Of course." Libby said, scoffing. She hated Health more than she hated heights, and that's saying something. She sat down at her desk and took out her textbook. The old thing was a rental that she was meant to give back 2 years ago, which she beats herself up over everyday. The pages were practically falling apart and some were even ripped out.
"Turn to page 578 in your textbooks." Mr. Chiselle boomed. He was so loud that sometimes they even got noise complaints and he was forced to quiet down. Libby hated Mr. Chiselle, but he did live up to his name. He had brown hair with some gray streaks, a nice body, and never bothered to do up his top button. He also had every girl in the school swooning over him, including Libby at times. There were plenty of rumors that came with his good looks, though. For one, he was constantly accused of sleeping with students, which sprouted from about 3 girls saying that he had slept with them, along with the fact that every good-looking girl had good grades in his class. Libby flipped through her textbook and found that page 578 had been torn out of the book and most likely thrown away. She grumbled and took out her computer.
"Benjamin!" Mr. Chiselle said, pointing at Libby. She ignored him. This was another reason why she hated Mr. Chiselle. He would never respect her gender and always called her by her deadname, Benjamin.
"Benjamin Rose-Oliver! Do not ignore me!" Mr. Chiselle said. Libby, yet again, ignored him. After all, her name wasn't Benjamin. Not anymore at least. Someone behind her tossed a paper at her head.
"Benny! The teacher is callin' ya!" They said. It ended up being a random kid who thought in his head that he was Libby's friend, when he really wasn't. Libby sat up and stared at the teacher.
"If you are talking to me, my name isn't Benjamin. It's Libby. So if you want my attention, call me by my name instead of Benjamin. I don't even know who that is." She said. Mr. Chiselle's face grew red.
"Ahem. Libby. Why aren't you turned to page 578?" He said, trying not to make eye contact with Libby. Everyone was holding back laughter.
"It's not in my book. I was going to look at the digital copy." Libby responded. Mr. Chiselle agreed to let her look at it and continued the lesson. After class, Libby looked at the school news board to see the roles for the play that was being set up. She was thinking about auditioning for the main role.
"Oh? Looking at the roles? If you wanted the main role, you are totally lost. I am gonna secure that role whether you like it or not. Got it?!" Ria said as she walked by. Ria was the most popular girl in the entire school, and she always got the main role in every play, even if she didn't really try for it. But, Libby was gonna try this time. Harder than she had ever tried for a role before. After she finished all of her classes, she rushed home and started researching acting tips and writing them down along with practicing the lines that were up on the board for people to practice if they wanted certain roles. These would be the lines to be played out and said during the auditions, and the lines depended on which character you wanted. Libby practiced all night for the main role of Azura in the play, and went to school feeling awful. Auditions were happening that day, though, so she had brought a quick snack and some coffee to boost her energy.
"All students who wish to audition for the school play may come to the auditorium at this time." Libby heard a voice on the intercom say. She rushed over to the auditorium and sat down in the second row. Ria sat right behind her, pulling on her hair the entire time.
"Benjamin Rose-Oliver, please step up on stage." The principal said. Libby got up and walked to the stage.
"Ahem, ma'am? I said 'Benjamin Rose-Oliver', is that you? You certainly don't look like a Benjamin." The principal whispered to her.
"That used to be my name, I need to change my forms for the system and submit them." Libby responded, taking out her notes and glancing over them slightly. She then put her notes away and started to recite her lines.
"I am Azura, slayer of demons and protector of peace... NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!!" She said, leaping around and doing the movements just as described on the forms. Ria was stunned. Her mouth was hanging wide open as Libby bowed and walked offstage. Libby sat back down and started panting. She could not believe that she actually pulled it off.
"My, my! What an excellent performance! Next up is.. Ria Gonzala!" The principal boomed. Ria walked up on stage and as she was reciting the lines, she was barely even doing any movements and seemed to be reading from a script in her head, constantly stopping to think about what to say next. After the auditions were over, Ria stopped Libby in the hall outside of their next class.
"Hey, bitch. Just in case your little peanut brain didn't notice, I was meant to get that role! You just ruined my entire fucking persona! You better give up that role or so help me-" She said as she was held back and pulled away by her friends. "Followers" people called them.
"How do you know that I even got the role? Did you actually enjoy my performance? Did you think it was GOOD?" Libby snapped back. Ria stood, frozen by shock, for a moment before blushing slightly and clearing her throat.
"Shut the hell up, okay?! Just- just stay off my turf!!" She said before walking away with The Followers trailing behind her.
