Izuku was not prepared for this. He had never been so nervous.
(...Well, not like that at least, since he basically spent his life being nervous).
He couldn't even pinpoint what stressed him out the most: that the UA facilities might not be good enough to satisfy his mom and might change her mind into him being better in a regular high school — or her reaction when he'd introduce her to Shōto.
He took a glance in the latter's direction and noticed that he was standing aside, eyes on his phone; as if he were expecting the device to do something on its own. (Probably because Endeavor still hadn't confirmed — and it was almost 5pm.)
The younger teen frowned at that and scanned the hall for All Might, who seemed to be missing as w-
- Izuku!!!
He snapped out of his thoughts as Inko passed the door and hurried over to pull him into a tight embrace.
(Not caring in the least that she might be embarrassing him in front of all his class.)
Shōto raised his eyes to see who was talking and- wow.
Izuku was his mom's very picture.
They had the same emerald eyes, the same forest green hair, Inko's cheeks too were adorned with a couple freckles... and they had the same grin. Which seemed to literally light up the entire hall.
Shōto's lips stretched in a soft smile as he watched that petite, plump woman squeeze his boyfriend as if their lives were on the line-
And then he wondered when was the last time Rei had held him in her arms.
A weird sensation invaded his chest, which he couldn't really interpret, as he realized two things.
One: he couldn't even remember.
And two: he wasn't even sure she ever held him like that.
(Rei had been at the hospital for over ten years now; it had taken quite some time for her son to visit. The memories Shōto had of her were still mixed.)
Izuku noticed his boyfriend's unease, and parted from Inko with a twinge of embarrassment, instantly realizing Shōto must be comparing their relationship to his and Rei's.
He cleared his throat, mentally preparing himself to motion for the older teen to come close-
And did a double take as Inko planted herself in front of him, her face shifting from a fond smile to a disapproving scowl.
- All right young man, now that we've properly said hello, I hope you're aware of how inadmissible your behavior has been lately! she scolded with a pout.
The hero in training blinked.
"Oh no, what did I do...? Or what did I NOT do??"
His eyes grew wide and he racked his mind to think of what he may have done wrong — did he leave dirty socks on the floor of his room or something? Did his mom receive his score at the latest test before him, and it was worse than he hoped?
...oh my GOD, did she find out that he spent a WHOLE night out when he was supposed to have class the next morn-
- You haven't called me once in the whole week!! I'm your mother and you're the apple of my eye, I've been missing you so much!
...Oh.
"Oh wow, she scared the hell out of me!" the green-haired teen thought with a relieved sigh — which he immediately wished he could swallow back as she set her hands on her hips.
(Oh crap.)
Izuku waved his hands in innocence and blurted out the first excuse he could think of.
- A-Aaaah, I'm so sorry!! This week has been, uh, super intense, I swear!! ...I-I mean the exams and all of course, not a villain attack or something bad like that!! he hurried in adding in, cold sweat dripping down his neck.
