Madeleine (16 years old)

I was getting ready for school, running a bit late, and Jay kept yelling at me.
"Madeleine we don't have all day, I have to get to work." Jay yelled from the front door.
  "Two seconds." I yelled back.
"You have been saying that for the last 10 minutes." Jay yelled back, as I ran down the stairs.
"And I am here now, so lets go." I said, hurrying out into Jay's car.

As we got in the car Jay immediately started to drive towards my school.
"If you are going to keep being late, you will have to start walking." Jay said while driving.
"We both know you wouldn't let me walk alone every day." I said while checking my phone. Jay sighed knowing that I was right.

When we finally arrived, I hurried to get out of the car.
"Have a nice day." Jay said before he drove away and I went inside to start my school day.

Jay Halstead's POV

I rushed up the stairs a little late, but it was fine. We didn't have a case and when I arrived at the bullpen everyone was just sitting at their desks.
"Why are you late?" Voight asked as I was about to sit down at my desk.
"Just some problems with Maddy." I answered with a sigh. He just nodded in responds and walked back into his office.

A couple of hours went by with us just doing paperwork, until Voight came out of his office.
"There is a fire at Thomas Jefferson High School." He said, and my eyes immediately shot up, and everyone turned to me surprised.
"That's Maddy's school." I managed to say as we all ran down to our cars and drove to the school.

When we arrived the firefighters for 51 was already there, and most students was already out of the school. I looked around among the students, while Voight went to talk to chief Boden. While looking I got interrupted by one of Maddy's friends Christina.
"She was in Chemistry, where the fire started, I don't think she is out yet." Christina said, shaking obviously in shock. I nodded politely squishing her shoulders comforting before going to Voight and Chief Boden.

Voight turned to me when he saw me approaching, and I shook my head.
"She is not here, her friend says she was in Chemistry where the fire started." I said as tears started to prick in my eyes.
"Who?" Boden asked a bit confused.

I looked at Voight who looked at me and then at Boden, before Voight sighed and spoke.
"Madeleine Halstead." He said and Boden looked understanding, before he took his radio.
"There is still kids trapped in the Chemistry room." He said to his men inside.

There went a minute of silence before Casey spoke from the radio.
"Are you sure chief?" He asked.
"Positive, Madeleine Halstead is in there." Boden answered, and hearing that I walked away, I couldn't listen to this anymore. I sat down on the curve with tears in my eyes I should probably call Will, but right now I couldn't, what if I lost my little sister?

Madeleine Halstead's POV

The fire had started out of nowhere and even though most students was able to get out together with the teacher, some of us was still stuck in the Chemistry room. We are only three students left sitting on the ground in the other end than the fire trying to stay calm, and not inhale too much smoak.

It was almost impossible the room was filled with smoak, and we are all three already coughing. With each cough it felt like my lungs were giving up.

Finally, after what felt like forever, we started to hear people trying to open the door. It didn't take long before the door got opened and some firefighters stepped in.
"Fire department call out." A familiar voice called out, and I could only barely make out the name, but it said Severide, it was Kelly.

He walked in together with two others.
"Here." I managed to call out with a cough, as the firefighters turned to us. They helped us up and guided us out.

I walked in the back with Kelly helping me walk. I tried my best to keep standing but I was getting dizzy and it felt like my legs was giving up under me.
"I can't." I managed to stutter out before I fell to the ground, Kelly caught me and carried me outside.

I could still sense what was happening, and I could hear my own wheezing as I tried to breath.
"Put her down here." I heard a familiar voice say as I got put down on a gurney. I am pretty sure it was Gabby talking, at this point a lot of people was talking and I couldn't really hear what any of them was saying.

My breathing got worse and Gabby shouted for everyone to shut up.
"Maddy, we are going to go now and take you to med, Jay is coming with us, okay?" Gabby said, and I nodded weakly. I got rolled into the ambulance as I started to lose consciousness.

Jay Halstead's POV

I sat beside my now unconscious sister as we drove towards med. Tears started to prick in my eyes as I just sat there helplessly. I had tried to call Will, but he didn't pick up so he had no idea we were coming.

Gabby and Sylvie rolled Maddy into the ER with me right behind them.
"Dr. Rhodes." Maggie yelled as Connor ran over to us.
"What have we got?" He asked Gabby and Sylvie.
"Madeleine Halstead, 16-year-old female, spoke inhalations, unconscious." Gabby said.
"Maddy." I heard Will shout, as he came running towards us.

Gabby and Sylvie rolled Maddy into a room together with Dr. Rhodes. I stayed behind to explain the situation to Will.
"What happened?" Will asked as he reached me.
"There was a fire at her school and she got locked into a room and inhaled a lot of smoke." I explained trying my best not to break.

Maggie managed to get us pushed away and into the waiting room were we quickly got company by the rest of intelligence and the firefighters from 51.
"How is she?" Erin asked me as she sat down next to me, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder.
"She fell unconscious in the Ambo, but no news since we came here." I said as I threw my head into my hands with a loud sigh.

Not longer after that Dr. Rhodes walked over as me and Will stood up to hear what he had to say.
"She inhaled a lot of smoke and will have to stay here over night, but besides from that she is fine. She is awake now, a bit groggy, but she is awake and talking." Connor said with a smile as me and Will thanked him before walking towards Maddy's room.

Madeleine Halstead's POV

I woke up in the hospital, I blinked a couple of times before I could see clear.
"Hello there." Connor said crouching down in front of me as I tried to figure out what was going on around me. I had an oxygen tube in my nose, and an IV in my arm.
"How are you feeling?" Connor asked.

"Like I have smoked three packs of cigarettes." I said my voice raspy and hoarse. My throat dry and sore.
"Not that I have ever smoked, it is just what I imagine it would feel like." I said quickly panicking, making Connor chuckle.

After his chuckles had calmed down, he looked at me again.
"I am going to get your brothers and tell them you are awake, but I am afraid you are going to have to stay overnight." Connor said and I nodded as Connor walked out of the room.

Not long after Connor had walked out, Jay and Will came rushing in. They stood one on each side of me. Jay leaned down and kissed my forehead immediately.
"Don't ever scare me like that again." He said, making me laugh a bit.
"Sorry." I said between laughs as both Jay and Will started laughing as well.
