A gentle stream of moonlight illuminated the small room. Quiet sobs echoed the room, as you looked at your reflection. Tears flowed down your face, dripping down onto your lap. Tattered magazines littered your floor. Cut out pictures of models laid out in front of you, small parts of the paper damp from tears.
Your eyes scanned each picture, only causing more sobs to escape your lips. Your mind was racing a mile a minute, you couldn't seem to control your thoughts. 'Why can't I look like these girls..' Their bodies were astonishing, every curve was unbelievable. Was this truly society's idea of 'pretty'? The longer you stared at the models, the more your thoughts spiraled.
You wiped tears from your eyes, only for them to be replaced by new ones. You could never live up to these beauty standards. You could never envision yourself looking like others. Sniffling, your eyes flickered back to the mirror. Your thoughts stop, and concentrated on one singular thing. Is this what Koutarou wants?
You have been dating the volleyball player Bokuto Koutarou since your second year of highschool (so for well over 4 years). Both of you attended Fukurodani Academy and had been friends since your first year. You never completely understood why he wanted to be with you of all people. There were so many other girls, guys too, that he could've dated.
Yes, you love Bokuto so much. You never wanted to imagine him leaving and finding someone new. But on nights like these, where you were left alone to your thoughts, the only things you could think about were scenarios like that. No matter how many times your boyfriend has told you how beautiful you are, you can't seem to believe it for yourself.
There are so many insecurities you have, so many things you see wrong with yourself. Yet, Bokuto seems to look past all of those things. How does Bokuto manage to love you so much when you struggle to love yourself. You can't look in a mirror without pointing out at least 5 things wrong with yourself.
You could notice a strand of hair out of place, or your outfit might not match. It doesn't take much for you to completely break down like you are now. If you're honest, you get so annoyed with yourself because of this. You wish you could stop falling apart all the time. You wish you could stop seeing all the negative things and see something positive about yourself at least once.
You were snapped out of your thoughts by the vibration of your phone. You looked down at the illuminated screen, seeing a text notification. Unlocking your phone, you saw the message was from Koutarou. 'Hey babe, practice just ended. I'll be home in a few minutes.' A small smile broke your frown, as you read his text. Moments later, your frown returned as more thoughts flooded your head.
What did you do to deserve this man? He is so caring and comforting, always doing his best to lift you up. Most people assume he is some happy go luck person, but he battles his own demons too. Although he deals with his own negative thoughts, he still swats away all of yours. Your brain continued to pump out these thoughts, making the endless hoard of tears rain on.
'Why does he still put up with me? What is there to want? It can't be my body, I mean look at me. My thighs are too [big/small]...I'm probably too [tall/short]. What if he doesn't like how my hair is...' You're snapped out of this by the creak of a door, causing you to turn your attention to your bedroom door.
"Y/N? Baby, what's wrong?" Bokuto dropped his bags and rushed over to you, dropping down to your side. He pulled you into his lap, holding you tightly as you continued to sob. "Did something happen while I was at practice? I'm sorry I was gone later, we've just been practicing more because of the match coming up." The more Bokuto spoke, the more tears ran down your face. "Y/N, you can talk to me baby...What's going-"
"Koutarou, why do you want me?" You cut Bokuto off, your question catching him completely off guard. Your speech was broken, being cut off by sobs and sniffles. After a short silence, you tried to suppress your cries and continued to speak. "At Fukurodani..there were so many other people. There were so many other girls, hell, even some of the guys looked better than me. There were people with [bigger/smaller] thighs...people that were [taller/shorter] than what I am. So many girls who had [bigger/smaller] boobs than me or a [bigger/smaller] ass than me. I just don't see-"
Bokuto silenced your insults, pressing his finger against your lips. He met your gaze, a hurt expression behind his eyes. "Do you always think about these things when you look at yourself?" You glanced at the mirror, more tears leaving your eyes. You nodded which only resulted in Bokuto holding you tighter.
"Why do I want you? Baby, look at yourself. You may not see everything I see, but you are amazing. There's no what with a personality like yours, and your beauty is unmatched. So what if there were other people at school? None of them are like you. None of them have stayed with me for over 4 years. None have them have been there for me like you have. Baby, I love you so much. Please, please try to see all of these things."
Tears had started to form in Bokuto's eyes as he sat on the floor, holding you tightly. He slowly turned you around so you were facing the mirror, with his body still behind you. He slowly moved his hands from your waist up to your breasts, gently massaging them. He began to gently kiss your neck, moving his hands down your sides. His hands moved past your hips, down to your thighs as he rubbed your skin soothingly.
"I don't care how good looking someone else may be, no one else can compare to you. You're the only girl I want to hold like this, alright? So, try to keep your head up for me baby." The two of you sat there in a calming silence, as Bokuto slowly rocked you in his arms. You soon fell asleep, curling up slightly in his lap. He picked you up, laying down on your bed with you on top of him. His eyes grew heavy, sleep almost taking over him. But before he fell asleep, he uttered one last sentence to you...
"My little owl...you're perfect. Just the way are." ~ ♥
