A/N: It's my first time writing a fanfic! This first chapter recounts some of the events of Undertale to put things into perspective from Chara's POV. Sorry if it feels a bit slow! Things will pick after this...I recommend reading up to chapter 5 if you want a better idea of how things will go. However, many questions will remained unanswered if you stop there...I experiment with the writing style at chapter 5, so give it a look if you don't like the current format

In this universe, the routes in order are; True Pacifist---> Aborted Genocide run (reset at Sans fight)---> Neutral run---> Indeterminate. So we are post neutral run, but other endings were obtained.

*You are filled with DETERMINATION

???: "agh...ah...wha-"

Chara jolted awake, gasping for air in a daze. She clutched her head in pain. After a few moments she began to steady her breathing.

Chara: "Ugh, Frisk what the hell just happened? We defeated Flowey and then-"

And then she realized.

She's corporeal now. A ghost no longer. She squeezed her chest. She felt it, the beat of her heart. The warmth of her soul.

Chara: "Fr-Frisk? What's going on!? Where are you?"

Chara calmed herself and collected her thoughts. On her person she had her knife and locket. She looked up and saw that she was face to face with the barrier.

Chara: [Freaking out won't help me. I need to remember. Flowey had just killed dad...and then we defeated Flowey after he absorbed the 6 human souls...]

Frisk had finally reached King Asgore Dreemurr, the man who declared war on humanity for killing his son Asriel.

Chara was adopted by Asgore when she fell into the underground. Chara detested humanity, so she came up with a plan to kill the humans.

She decided to guilt Asriel into absorbing her soul when she was on death's door after poisoning herself to give them immense power. However, when the moment of truth arrived Asriel didn't want to go through with Chara's wish to murder. After bringing her body to see the flowers from her village, the humans mortally wounded Asriel as he carried her body back to the underground. When he got there he died, turning to dust.

On that day Asgore had lost both of his children. And so he swore to get his revenge on the humans, but to do so he would need to acquire 7 human souls to become strong enough to fight the humans. Even if this meant killing 7 children. He had acquired 6, and Frisk would have been the 7th.

Chara would eventually wake up upon Frisk's arrival to the underground after they fell. It was their Determination that awakened her. This would lead to the pair exploring the underground together to fulfil Frisk's quest to pass through the barrier, allowing them to leave the underground. To do so they needed to get past Asgore.

Chara stared at the barrier as she pieced her memories together.

Chara: [That's right. We fought dad and managed to spare him but...Flowey killed him. Where did that bastard run off to?]

She wanted to mourn his loss but she knew that she couldn't waste a second. She needed to stay calm for now.

Flowey is a soulless being whose boredom led to their abuse of a power, a power obtained through "determination". The power to SAVE and reset the world. He initially used this power to help others, but his lack of a soul made him incapable of feeling empathy. He finally found pleasure in the pain of others. When Frisk came to the underground that power was passed on to them instead, but all that did was give Flowey a new toy to play with.

Chara: [He killed my father, absorbed the 6 human souls, and makes me sick to my stomach but...we still managed to defeat him, which brings us to the present.]

Chara: [But now...Frisk is gone and I'm somehow alive. The only thing I can think of is that Frisk managed to cross the barrier. That doesn't explain why I'm here though...is it my own Determination that brought me back?]

She had no way of knowing. After all, Flowey used to have the ability so it's possible that he is the current user. She couldn't risk killing herself to find out.

Chara held her head in her hands. None of this makes sense. What was she supposed to do now?

Chara: [Ugh...What do I do? Frisk is gone, my dad is dea-]

The gears in Chara's head began to turn as she imagined the worst scenario. The gravity of her father's death sank in. The King of monsters is dead. If a new one comes into power her life, and possibly her mother's is at stake.

Her mom, Toriel left Asgore once she learned of his plan to kill the human children. She decided to leave the throne and go to the Ruins where humans like Chara would eventually fall. She always did her best to protect them but failed many times. If a new king is going to follow through with her father's plan, her mom could be targeted for trying to save humans. She decided that her best course of action would be to escape to the ruins.

Chara needed to act fast. She sprinted over to the throne room but...

Chara: "N-no way...that's impossible..."

Asgore: "Ah, howdy Chara! I didn't realize you were here! Why not join Asriel and I for a cup of tea?"
