Pov Jane
As soon as we left the common room, Hailey joined us happier than ever. She didn't care about our dark looks and started talking.
"Guess who will finally be able to go to Hogsmeade for the first time this weekend? Lo! They've organized a trip next Saturday to introduce foreigners to the area. I'm already planning to go. Can't wait!"
Harry and I exchanged a knowing glance in memory of the previous year.
Continuing to listen to my sister's plans for Saturday, we arrived in the Great Hall, already laden with glittering plates and dinner items, and sat next to Hermione. Dinner passed quickly as none of us were in the mood to open our mouths except to eat. Sometimes I would look up and direct him in front of me to see if Harry was engrossed in his thoughts and, if so, which ones. I found him doing the same several times.
Once we finished eating we decided it was best for everyone to go to bed and leave that day behind, so we got up from our table and, after saying goodbye to Herm, who was going to talk to Ron - probably about him and Harry - to leave the room until a hand stopped me resting on my shoulder. I stopped and turned to see who it was.
"Hey, hi Jane, sorry could I talk to you for a moment?"
Cedric Diggory looked down at me smiling at me, his cheeks and the tip of his nose red from the cold.
"Cedric, bye. Yes, sure. Er, Harry, go ahead, I'll join you in the Common Room.". Harry didn't seem to agree very much but he greeted me all the same and headed for the dormitory, not before having scrutinized the badger wary.
"Good. Jane, do you remember when I told you this morning I was going to repay? I just heard that there is an outing in Hogsmeade on Saturday and I thought a butterbeer would be perfect to return the tip about the dragons. What do you say? you want, of course. "
That proposal came unexpectedly. I didn't expect him to really pay off, or at least not so soon. Unconsciously, I said it. "Oh, I didn't think you were going to pay off so quickly, I actually didn't know you would. Apparently I have to change my mind." I said slightly embarrassed and amused.
"Do you really have such low esteem for us Hufflepuffs or should I take it personally?" he answered her, giggling like me.
"No, neither of them. And for the butterbeer, that's it, I think. Yes, I think I can." I retorted, hugging my sweater because of the cold.
"Excellent. So on Saturday morning I'll see you here and we'll go on together. Is that okay with you?". His smile widened.
"Yes, that's fine."
"Good. Maybe now you better go before Harry comes to get you. From his gaze I guessed that my interruption did not please him much and I have a feeling that if I don't let you go I will have to fear him more than the dragons."
"Yes, he's a little protective of me, but quiet, dangerous isn't really one of the first adjectives I'd give him. Anyway, yes, I'd better go. So on Saturday, Diggory."
He raised an eyebrow letting his surprise shine through. "See you Saturday, Carter."
I started off to see Harry, who I found dozing on the sofa next to the tower window. "I was waiting for you."
I nodded. I loved seeing him pissed off by the guys approaching me, whatever the reason.
"Did he need something?"
I sat on the other side of the sofa. "Definitely. He asked Me to get a butterbeer on Saturday to repay me for telling him about the dragons."
"You two alone? Is this some kind of date? And then sorry, I told you to give him a tip, he should take me to drink butterbeer. No, I mean, wait. Oh my God, that Diggory doesn't convince me, he's just hitting on you."
"Harry, can you please stop worrying. Yes, we will be alone. I don't know if it can be considered a date but, well, he convinces me a lot." I replied with a malicious look, which made him even more annoyed.
"But if you don't even know each other, Jay."
"I know, in fact I was joking Harry. Don't worry, I won't be engaged once I come back from the exit."
"So I don't have to worry?"
"Of course you don't have to." I replied convinced, finally making him laugh.
"Okay, but remember that first of all you are my property. First Malfoy and now Cedric, you attract too many guys for my liking, and then sure you won't forget me right?" he said in a theatrical, dejected way, as he pulled me by the arm to drag me over him and hug me.
"I could never forget about you, also because you buzz around me all day as if to guard me. You should try to be less apprehensive towards me and above all you should worry less about the guys I hang out with and around me, even if I admit that I love when you're jealous. "
"Well, if you love it why should I stop? Then it's useless to try, you already know that I will always be."
"In that case, I drop my weapons and surrender."
We were thrown on the sofa for a few more hours, not caring about the time that passed, joking and laughing as we had not done for months. When I was about to fall asleep on Harry, he decided it was time to take me up to the dorm.
From that day until Saturday, and their respective Hogsmeade outing, Harry kept a close eye on me, especially when Cedric and Malfoy were around me. Also, Harry had started to see the latter slightly differently, probably without even realizing it, always reluctant but also worried about seeing him too close to me. I preferred not to notice, a jealous Harry was not exactly in my plans that week, which passed far too quickly.
Hermione, like the others, seemed quite enthusiastic about the news and told me knowingly that she, unlike me, had already seen Cedric's interest in me. Ron seemed happy to me too, despite the fact that he was too busy avoiding Harry to concentrate on what I was saying. The only one less excited was Hailey who seemed surprised and disheartened, even though she told me she was glad I finally found a guy to go out with. She didn't give me any other explanations and, on the contrary, she ran away saying that she had to confront Prince about something about Defense so I let her go and remained confused.
