Pov Jane
A week had passed since that party and the evening with Malfoy and the more the days passed the more the excitement increased among the students, enthusiastic about the arrival of the students from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. The day had come and Dumbledore had us set up outside the castle to wait for the guests. A chatter of excitement mixed with curiosity made its way into the air until we saw a carriage driven by winged horses land from above. As soon as it touched the ground it opened and the headmaster of Beauxbatons came out, followed by her students. They sat down in the Great Hall and soon the Durmstrang delegation also arrived aboard a sailing ship that had come up from the bottom of the Black Lake. They also entered and we followed them fascinated. When all the students, including those who had just arrived, took their seats, Dumbledore got up and made a welcome speech, then wished us a good lunch and let us enjoy the banquet.
Once he finished eating and fantasized about how we could put our name in the chalice, Dumbledore got up to speak again and silence fell over the room.
"Well, I hope our dear guests enjoyed the banquet prepared for their arrival. Before leaving, however, I would like four Hogwarts students to accompany the delegations to show them our splendid school. Under the advice of Professor Snape to accompany the guests will be Draco Malfoy of Slytherin. Obviously he will be joined by Luna Lovegood, from Ravenclaw, Hanna Abbott, from Hufflepuff, and Jane Carter, from Gryffindor. Have a good rest of the day, hoping you enjoy our home. "
The gaze of all the Gryffindors focused on me, some transmitting enthusiasm and others apprehension. I realized I had no choice, so I greeted the boys and walked towards the entrance, where the interested boys were starting to meet.
Malfoy decided that the castle tour would start from the dungeons, and it did. We walked away pretending not to notice the tension between those present. The French students were chattering their teeth on our way to the Slytherin Common Room, but Malfoy didn't care and instead showed off his usual superior attitude to impress the Beauxbatons girls. There were those who looked at him enraptured as well as those who did not listen to him at all.
I thought he had to be really unscrupulous to do this after what happened between him and Evergarden. Going around like nothing had happened and hitting on girls older than him, actually, was a thing that suited him and was successful from what I noticed.
Yes, I found out from Hailey that she apparently befriended Prince. I still couldn't understand how two such different people managed to become so close and I also admit that at first, when he told me about their friendship, I was hesitant and tried to warn Hailey, but I didn't pay much attention to it anymore.
I didn't notice that, while she was absorbed in my thoughts, we had already finished the sightseeing tour - if that was what it might be called - and were heading towards the Gryffindor tower.
I immediately noticed Hailey and Prince out of the picture into my common room and if it wasn't for their entry Malfoy probably would have already had something nasty to say about us Gryffindors. The two girls looked at me and the Slytherin furtively and then returned to argue intensely with each other. Prince was the first to approach, followed by my sister, and she immediately began to speak amiably with the obviously impressed foreign students, and then moved close to Malfoy. Meanwhile, Hailey had slipped by me with an expression of someone who knows a lot.
"Look who I see together," she said in an allusive, winking way. She continued, "I see that you and Malfoy haven't been able to be apart lately. Do you have to tell me something big sister? "
"Hailey you're done babbling. Why did you stick to this story? You talk about it as if it were possible "
"Admit that you'd like it at least." Her winking tone surprised me.
"Are you feeling okay Hailey? No, I would not like to be with an arrogant, presumptuous and narcissistic person like him "
"Well, he doesn't seem like that. You too will have noticed all the times he looked at you "
I admit that I had noticed how he looked at me sideways so as not to be noticed, then returning to his attitude of her swaggering her. But no, they weren't admiring glances, they were thoughtful glances.
"Yes, I noticed, but I still don't understand where you want to go, or rather, I don't understand why you want to go," I said harshly to close the conversation.
I gave Malfoy a fleeting look and saw him puff up his chest while talking to the French girls. No, he couldn't be interested in me.
