Earlier, Fortress of Millenia

Caules Forvedge sighed as he finished applying healing magecraft on his sister. Thankfully, Fiore was only unconscious and lightly bruised. It was only a matter of time before she woke up.

Caules: But when she wakes up... will I still be here?

He couldn't come up with an answer. It had been nothing short of a miracle that both of them were fortunate enough to survive the Assassin of Gray's rampage, but the losses were extreme.

Only three of the Yggdmillenia clan remained alive. Caules mused that the clan was as good as dead since Darnic had perished.

He found himself at a loss of what to do next.

???: 'Scuse me, the door was open.

The door to the room opened as the imposing demon slayer that was Sakata Kintoki entered, his mood staggeringly casual as ever.

Caules: Berserker...?

Kintoki: Yep, that's me. Your sister doin' alright?

Caules: Huh? O-Oh, yeah. She's still unconscious and has some bruises, but other than that, she's fine. I've been using healing magecraft to speed up the process.

Kintoki: Ah, gotcha. Mind if I take a seat?

Caules: Uh, go ahead.

The Berserker took a chair for himself and sat down in a manner that reminded Caules of a western-type delinquent. It was strangely comforting to watch in the midst of the grim atmosphere surrounding them.

Kintoki: Helluva rough day we had today, didn't we?

That was an understatement. Losing his Servant, almost the entirety of his team, and almost seeing Fiore die in front of him was all too much.

Caules: Yeah, you could say that...

Kintoki: *sigh* Damn it. Losing like that hurts any guy's pride. Sorry if I couldn't protect you guys in time...

Caules: Don't blame yourself for that. It's not your fault.

The Assassin had simply been too fast for anyone to handle appropriately. As much as he wanted to place the blame on somebody, Caules was smart enough to know that he didn't have any right to.

Kintoki: You've got a lot of heart for a magus.

Caules: Is that bad?

Kintoki: Nah, it's actually pretty GOLDEN in my book. Never change, kid.

His grin was a contagious one, and Caules couldn't help but smile a little. Then, the Berserker adopted a thoughtful pose.

Kintoki: Y'know, your Servant reminded me of someone.

Caules: She did?

Kintoki: Yeah. I get the gist of it. A monster girl that seeks a forbidden love... Heh, sure does remind me of someone I used to know. Maybe that's why we got along so well.

Unfortunately, Caules wasn't well-versed in Japanese mythology, so he couldn't recall anyone fitting that description in his knowledge of Sakata Kintoki's legend.

Kintoki: In fact, it was a reminder on why I'm lookin' for the Grail in the first place.

Caules: Oh, yeah... You have a wish of your own, don't you?

Kintoki: Mmm-Hmm. I mean, it's a GOLDEN Grail, so it's obvious that I want it... But, uh, if I could help it, I'd wish to revive a certain someone...
