The Next Day

Zelretch nodded to himself as the plan was formed. Kariya looked quite determined to see it through to the end.

Zelretch: And that's the gist of it. Does everyone agree with this plan?

Everyone nodded. The foreign Servant seemed most eager to do this than anyone else, and his Mistress wasn't too far behind.

That was good. It meant that they wouldn't do this half-heartedly.

Zelretch: Then, it's settled. We strike at sunset.

Tohsaka Manor

Tokiomi Tohsaka banged his fist on his desk in anger as his disciple had just relayed the news of the most recent death of his ally.

Tokiomi: Impossible... Why would even the priest be murdered? It's unthinkable. This cannot be allowed!

Kirei had no visible reaction, while Gilgamesh merely smirked from the side, enjoying how the scene played out.

Tokiomi: I'm sure it must also be regrettable for you to lose your father in such a way.

Kirei: Yes.

Tokiomi: It's been one unexpected disaster after another. And worst of all, we still don't know anything about who, or what, that girl and her Servant are.

He had personally seen the eighth Master's feats from afar the previous night. If nothing else, she was a monstrously talented magus far ahead of Tokiomi himself, if not a Magician altogether. Foreigner was another thing entirely.

Tokiomi: We must formulate a plan of attack at once. I apologize to make this demand of you, Kirei, but we need Assassin for this task.

Kirei: As you wish.

Archer materialized in the hallway, where Kirei was just exiting Tokiomi's office. He scoffed amusedly at the executor.

Archer: For all it's worth, I do pity your father. He died believing his son was a man of God, but perhaps that was his salvation?

Kirei: ...

Archer: Heh. Does your father's demise arouse no feeling within you at all? You could at least try faking emotions, especially since you know who the culprit was.

Kirei: ...It does. I am frustrated to no end.

Archer: So you say. Are you frustrated you were not able to kill him yourself?

His smirk widened as Kirei turned to look at him with a degree of surprise.

Archer: A word of advice from the king. You would do well to heed it: That girl is a greater obstacle to you than the man you seek to understand, yet perhaps you would find similarities between the two of you as well.

With that, he dematerialized, leaving Kirei to his thoughts.

Fuyuki City

It was a bright new day as Saber and Irisviel had been escorted by Maiya to a new base of operations given to them by Kiritsugu. It was an old house compound that had been chosen because it was right above one of the city's leylines.

Maiya: From now on, this will be your new base.

Saber simply nodded as she was handed the keys to the compound. Since last night, she had been more silent than usual, much to Irisviel's worry.
