"What are you doing?" Striker peered over my shoulder at the newspaper I was pouring over, circling various apothecaries and alternative healing shops I wanted to check out.
"Looking for a new herbal supplier."
"Oh?" Striker raised an eyebrow as if this was the most shocking news.
Setting down the pen I had been using, I glared up at him, "Lena said something today that just struck a chord with me. I think I need some space from her for a while."
Instead of asking questions, Striker just looked amused. I wondered if he knew it had something to do with him. Shrugging, he flopped down on the couch beside me and turned on the TV. It was some football game, but it appeared it was just meant to be some noise to fill the room.
After a long stretch of silence, he said, "Are you okay?"
I wanted to say yes and just avoid a whole discussion, but instead said honestly, "I'm frustrated at Lena's judgment. It was rude."
Striker listened, nodded, and grunted as though he was used to that kind of treatment. Then he reached out and took my hand. I looked up to see him grinning like the whole situation was amusing, "Come on, darlin', forget Lena's bullshit. Let's just watch a movie and order some Thai."
