Life After Death

When we finally came back to our senses, I laid with my head on Striker's chest. I could hear his heartbeat slowly returning to normal. The rhythmic thud thud thud lulled me into a peaceful sense of complacency.

Finally looking up, I saw a smile of lazy indulgence etched across his handsome face. It was a look of contentment that I enjoyed seeing on him.

"Striker?" I asked.

"Hm?" He glanced down at me with a grin.

"Thank you...for everything."

Striker responded by giving me a slight squeeze, "I should be the one thanking you, darlin'. I know it's not easy being attached to someone like me."

"I don't mind," I replied, sitting up just enough to kiss him, "I like who you are."

"So does that mean you'll stay here permanently? With me?"

His question took me aback only for a moment. Returning his smile, I said, "I can think of nothing I would like more."

I meant what I said, heart and soul. We may have met under odd circumstances, but souls did not have to be identical to work in harmony. A druid and an assassin have just as much of a chance at a happy relationship as anyone else above or below the ground.

Our paths may have met in a sketchy hotel, yet it led us here to this moment. Without a doubt, there were forces at work that had intertwined us together, giving us each a new prospect on life after death.
