Eavesdropping

"The Overlords are getting restless," I mused, toying with my glass of wine. The red liquid sloshed against one side of the glass, then the other like a sea of blood. The thought brought a grim smile to my lips. Yes, restless Overlords always ended in a sea of blood. It was like the moon and the tide. One was reliant on the other.

Across the dingy hotel room, I could hear someone talking through the thin wall. It was a deep male voice and judging on the one-sidedness of the conversation, I could safely assume he was talking on the phone. I heard a deep chuckle and then nothing. The conversation was over.

I continued to listen for a while, but there was no sound. Just when I was about to give up on my eavesdropping, I heard the low voice snarl and swear. There was some banging and more swearing, followed by a loud thwack as something was thrown against the shared wall.

Raising my eyebrow, I set my wine off to the side and got up. I stepped outside and knocked on my neighbor's door. There was some more swearing before it opened to reveal a rather tall imp with a scowl marring his handsome face, "What the hell do you want?"

Ignoring the rudeness, I eyed the spot he was attempting to bandage on his side and replied in a calm voice, "I heard you having some trouble, may I help?"

"I'm fine," He growled, starting to shut the door. I took a step, placing one foot between the door and the frame.

"I'm a healer," I explained.

The imp looked me up and down for a moment before opening the door again, "Fine."

Giving him a reassuring smile, I said, "Let me grab my herbs. Go have a seat on the bed, I'll be back in a minute."
