Striker's apartment was a textbook case of a bachelor's pad. I looked about the sparsely furnished home as he gestured towards the kitchen and bathroom before saying, "Your bedroom is right over there."
The room he pointed to was small but clean. A twin bed sat up against one wall and a desk sat against another. Setting the small bag with all my belongings on the bed, I looked around me. Despite the strangeness of the situation, it was an improvement over the sketchy hotel.
"What do you think?" Striker leaned against the doorframe, watching me inspect the room. I noticed that even though this was his home, he did not cross the threshold into the bedroom.
"It's cozy," I replied, then glanced at my bag, "Though I don't own enough to take up much space."
Striker smiled lazily, gesturing towards the kitchen, "When you're settled in, come find me. I've got some takeout menus on the counter. We can order in. I didn't eat breakfast, and I'm sure you didn't either."
He turned to leave, but stopped when I asked after him, "Why are you doing this? This goes far beyond repaying a debt."
The imp grinned wolfishly at me from over his shoulder, "You feel like a good luck charm, darlin'. And with my crap luck lately, I could use all the help I can get."
