"Are you almost ready, Sasha?" I ask while lifting up my phone and looking at the brightness of my screen to read the time. The white numbers beam 9:47 with the date underneath it reading February 10th. We're already almost an hour late for Mikasa's 18th birthday party, and there's supposed to be a large number of people attending along with complimentary booze since her parents left to let her throw this party.
"Shut up," Sasha says while picking up her black liquid eyeliner and lining it up against the corner of her eye, a smirk growing on her face, "you just wanna see your little boy-toy."
"No," I insist, "I feel bad about being late. We have speeches to give in a few hours, remember?" I cross one leg over the other as I sit on the edge of my bed, using my arms to support myself as I lean back, impatiently waiting for Sasha to finish her makeup. I've been ready for a few minutes so I can't blame only Sasha for making us late.
"True," she says as she draws a nearly perfect line on her right eye, "but you also wanna see Eren."
I wish I could prove her wrong. I've had a crush on Eren since we were in middle school, but now I'm a senior in high school and it's definitely not a secret to anyone. Fortunately, he's best friends with my close friends, Mikasa and Armin, and they've been my only outlet to him since then. Anyone with common sense would know that I have a crush on him, and I wouldn't be surprised if he knew as well. Honestly, I chose the outfit I'm wearing incase I run into him tonight, and hopefully after a few shots of vodka, I'd be able to gain the confidence to talk to him.
"I hate that you're right," I mumble underneath my breath while reaching over for my purse to sling it over my shoulder.
I watch as Sasha snaps the cap close to her eyeliner, placing it down on the vanity before picking up her purple makeup bag. She unzips it and grabs her eyeliner to slide it inside of the bag, then zipping the bag close to place it back on the wooden surface. She stands up from the chair and pushes it to slide it underneath the table. "Let's go, babe," she smiles before reaching out for me to grasp her hand.
Once my hand grasps hers, I use her hand to pull myself off of the bed. The both of us look in the mirror to check ourselves out and make sure we look presentable. My hand lifts up to reach for my rose quartz necklace around my neck, moving it between my fingers to designate it specifically for Eren, manifesting that I can catch his attention. It's a hopeless case at this point because I've never had a genuine conversation with him. "Whenever you're ready," I say with a smile as I step out of my room with her following just a few steps behind me.
"You're hot and you'll definitely catch his attention," she says as she reaches for the doorknob of the front door to pull it open, "I don't understand why you're so insecure, you're gorgeous, and you're friends with his friends. C'mon, you act like I haven't caught him staring at you before." The both of us walk to her car after closing and locking the door with my keys.
I can feel the flood of heat across my cheeks while reaching for her car door, pulling the handle to swing it open. "You don't need to lie to me to make me feel better," I let out a sigh as I take a seat in the passenger side of the car, leaning forward to grab the handle and pull the door shut. I watch as she pulls the door open, sitting in the driver's seat before reaching over to close the car door. "The best thing I could get out of him would be a sneaky link. It's not like we'd ever end up together, anyway."
