Chapter 22

Sharp warmth poured into Ezekiel like a soothing heat rising over his skin and soul from the earth itself, it pushed into him from his Clan. His Clan that was even now racing to his aid. In moments the beasts of his people stalked into the woods and surrounded the intruders without making one sound.

It was their boundless energy that announced their arrival. Ezekiel looked into the shadows of the wood and he saw a multitude of colorful and burning eyes. Slit eyes that blazed blues and yellows and greens.

Ezekiel struggled up onto his elbows, and as he did his eyes connected with the four most familiar to him. The ones who were pouring their strength into him. It wasn't so much healing him as empowering his will, boosting his tolerance to the pain, just because their support and care was so focused and great.

He felt and sensed his father and his three brothers. For one moment Ezekiel wondered where his mother was, but didn't have too wonder for too long.

Right at that moment one of the men with Jacob lost his nerve. The male Lion screamed and attempted to flee backwards, but before he could even take three steps a large female Snow Leopard with patches of glimmering white snow and shifting grey spots, a long sensuous body and puffed tail had him pinned beneath her, teeth clamped heavily on his jugular ready to RIP apart his throat. Every inch of her fur was bristling like it had been caressed with electric aggression.

Ezekiel instantly recognized the large and beautiful female as his mother. Her strong growl swallowed the entire area in wordless and livid maternal outrage. She wanted blood.

Two more snow leopards appeared and quickly ambushed the second male before he could even think to Shift in to his Lion flesh.

After pulling him down mercilessly by his arms the leopards pinned the second Lion to the earth. That left Jacob standing surrounded and holding Brandon to his chest. Possibly the only thing that had saved him from attack.

Ezekiel watched this all transpire, then sighed internally as the holes in his spine finally began to slowly close up, and lessen in the agony that they had caused him every time he had tried to breathe or shift.

Ezekiel smiled slightly at his brothers as they padded toward him from the gathered Clans men. Two leopards and one large grey Wolf rubbed Ezekiel's, back, hands, and chest affectionately. The beasts were rough with him, but their obvious anxiety for him kept Ezekiel from shying away from their heavy bodies.

Landers Leopard with eyes like green fire, licked at his wrist and growled softly. Nate with one eye as bolt white as the clouds and another black like night, let out the sad whine of a dog and nipped him all about his face, before the wolf came and stood beside Ezekiel.

While Walters leopard with eyes that were warm and chocolate brown, gave him strength with his calming presence and soft purring and occasional brushes of his tail or heavy head.

Ezekiel used their strong backs to struggle up to his feet, and holding to Walter and Nate's fur, he limped beside them towards the now completely surrounded Lion Jacob. All while Lander walked just ahead of them. His tail flicking from side to side in obvious anger.

Ezekiel accepted the small nuzzles and licks he received from a few of the Clans men that were present, as he made his way to the center ,where his parents, now in mortal form stood facing the clearly outnumbered lions. Jacob... was still cradling Brandon to himself like he had no worries. Or fear.

Ezekiel soon saw that his mother had turned the lion she had pinned down over to another female of the Clan so that she could stand beside and support her husband. As Ezekiel came towards them his mother didn't make a move to touch him, but she smiled at him with her large green eyes, and his father gave him a slow once over. Silently taking stock of Ezekiel's injuries, from his lacerated side to his punctured thigh and his bloody mouth and clothes.
