Chapter 26
Ezekiel listened to his brother's wild growl and for some reason it shredded his heart to hear it. So he softly burrowed his hand into his brothers warm fur to soothe him and after the rattling had ceased to come from his brothers Leopard he continued to speak.
"I believe that Brandon ran away from theses people for a reason, and now a lion comes here attacks with no warning and then sneaks away with Brandon while he is too sick to defend himself or make his own choices!? It is more then suspicious and worthy of our hesitation." Ezekiel implored everyone around to see. He had to convince his people to see Brandon as himself and not just a mortal, or another Clans property, but as a good person who needed their protection or at least their benefit of the doubt.
At this point Jacob had had enough. He snarled across Ezekiel's calm words.
"Your nothing but a thief trying to steal someone else's property! You have no right to deny me!" Jacob screamed, not aware that his words couldn't disprove what Lander had shown the Clan with Ezekiel's memories.
Ezekiels father steeped forward menacingly, nails lengthening. "My son is not a liar or a thief and you will cease your slander of him this minute." Jacob glared at the Clan Head, but said nothing so Mantilo stepped back.
"Now I believe we have a choice to make." he announced turning to Ezekiel's mother.

Ezekiel's father turned to his wife, his Life mate. No decision did he make without her and he was desperate for her council in a matter so delicate and emotionally involved. Glen was the one who would let him know if what he was feeling was right....if the choices he made next.....choices that would effect hundreds of lives were indeed the right choices to make.?He would do anything she asked. Follow her into any battle. He trusted her to let him wage the wars....while she directed his blade.
In reality this hidden authority in his mate is what made them so powerful....it was what had allowed Mantilo to destroy their enemies for all these years. The thorny rose and the dangerous beast.
Mantilo brushed his knuckles against Glens cheek and said "So, What do you think my love? Do we let him take the boy and avoid any further involvement in the matter?"

Glen cast her perfect Mate a small smile.
She knew he trusted her and her wisdom infallibly. He had once trusted her to maneuver literal and political mine fields. That was what she did. She was the Bow and he was the arrow. It was often her job to guide him and her people, albeit from the shadows of Mantilos own powerful authority and lead her clan and family, to safety.
She felt his need for her guidance keenly as he internally struggled with what he could do for the Mortal. She sensed his discomfort in his eyes and in the tightness of his body....she knew her Mate to be a kind and merciful man. Like Glen, Mantilo now knew that if he did nothing for Brandon....that the obviously damaged man would be in terrible danger. Or at least taken away from the safety of their Clan Lands
But Glen and Mantilo also knew that this matter was in many ways extremely volatile and dangerous. First of all it involved other mortal's....and not just any mortals, but the Alchemists.
A dark, mysterious, but powerful group of men that many feared....or simply avoided involvement with.
Second of all in Glens mind was the fact that if Brandon was a Clan Heir to the Alchemists the Law....The sacred laws that governed both the Mortals and the Shifters and were written by the Dragons could not be ignored or simply pushed aside.
