I got the feeling I was being watched. This feeling began weeks ago when I was walking home from the train station after my trip visiting my uncle. I looked around but I didn't see anyone looking my way.
The feeling continued and I started getting worried. What if this person was figuring out how to hurt me or my family. It became suffocating every time the feeling came around.
School was no escape either, and at home I was even more tense. My parents and friends were worried about me and I thought about telling them. I didn't want them to worry about me so I told my friends instead, making them promise not to tell my parents beforehand.
The mean girls in my class laughed at me, demanding why anyone would want to watch me, of all people. My friends yelled at them, reminding them that this was dangerous but I laughed along, saying they were probably right. I didn't believe it, not for a second but I did have the same question.
Why would anyone want to watch me?
That was when the note came. I had been taking my homework out of my bag when a slip of paper fell out and floated gently to the floor. I bent down and picked it up, wondering what it could be. I always kept my bag organized.
'You should be surprised more people aren't watching you, instead of why they are. Yours truly, CB.'
I didn't know anyone with the initials CB. I decided to show the note to my best friend. She told me to go to the police, saying this was going a bit farther than just observing. I took her advice and decided to wait until after school.
The eyes followed me all the way home. When I shut my bedroom door behind me, I sighed with relief. I set my bag down next to my chaise and went to sit at my desk. When I got there, I found another note folded in half and standing up. It had the same writing and sign off as before.
'Bringing the note to the police won't deter me. I'll always be here to protect you. You have my word.'
I took the two notes to the police right away and they called my parents to discuss what to do about it. Eventually, my parents and I were sent home with an escort that was to accompany me to school everyday and anywhere else I wanted to go.
The eyes watched me the entire way back.
"Are you planning on going anywhere today?" My escort asked me when we got back. My parents had wanted to stay with me but I reminded them they needed to watch over the bakery.
