Before dawn the next morning Chris gets out of bed. After getting into his jogging outfit he heads out.

Every morning before dawn he takes a jog to clear his head. Although this time he's also using it as an opportunity to check out more of the base.

During his jog he notes the location of the armoury, training hall and aircraft hangers.

On his way back he rounds a corner and almost runs over someone.

"Wow." He exclaims, deftly spinning around the stranger.

"I'm sorry mister." A small German Shepherd boy who looks to be about seven or eight says.

"That'll teach me not to look where I'm going." Chris comments, scratching his head.

"You look kinda weird mister." The boy comments, tilting his head.

"Yeah? What's so weird about me? I feel normal. Am I too skinny?" Chris asks, jokingly.

The boy giggles in response.

"Ethan! I've been looking for you all over the place." A young female German Shepherd says, running up and kneeling by the boy.

"I'm okay. I was just talking to this friendly man." The boy, Ethan, replies while pointing at Chris.

"My father told me we had a human on the base. The name's Megan." The girl says, extending her hand towards Chris.

"Chris. I presume your father is Dictator Pressley." Ethan greets, taking her hand.

"What gave it away?" Megan asks, flashing a smile.

"Well, I need to get him to breakfast. It was a pleasure to meet you." Megan says, taking Ethan's hand.

"The pleasure's all mine." Chris replies.

The two then part ways.

As Chris walks back into his barracks he notices that his new team is busy waking up.

Walking into the kitchen he finds humming playful tune while making breakfast.

"Gooood morning." Jill says, saluting him with a spatula and a smile.

"Morning." Chris replies.

He then pulls his water bottle out of the fridge and takes a few deep gulps.

"You weren't at dinner last night. That really hurt my feelings." Jill playfully scolds him.

"Sorry about that. I was tired so I went straight to bed." Chris apologizes with his most charming grin.

"Well okay. I'll forgive you this once. But you have to be at the breakfast table with everyone else." Jill orders.

"I'll be there. I'm just gonna take a quick shower then I'll join ya." Chris says.

After putting his bottle back into the fridge he goes to his room and grabs his clothes. Then he heads straight to the men's shower in their barracks.

By the time he's done, Jill is already putting everyone's plates in front of them.

Once everyone's started eating Kira says that it's time to go over the day's order of business.

"I'd like to test our new scout's ability. I think it would go a long way to putting everyone at ease." Kira says.

"That's a good idea. Just let me brush my teeth then we can go ahead." Chris replies, in agreement.

"Right. Afterwards we get to training. Next time we go on a mission we're gonna be sharp as a blade." Kira comments while flexing her right arm.

"In the meantime. Why don't you tell us a bit about yourselves?" Kira asks them.

Chris and Eve glance at each other for a moment.

"I guess I'll go first. I come from a military and police family. They taught me how to fight. I joined a private security firm as soon as I finished highschool. And I'll be turning nineteen in a few months." Eve says, introducing herself.

Then everyone turns to look at Chris. He sighs.

"The names Chris Lot. I'm the same age as Eve and I went to work at the same company she did. Nothing more to say really."

Kira is about to say something when the room is filled with a loud, unnatural, chirping.

Her expression serious, Kira pulls out an old flip phone.

"Breakfast's done. Everybody clean up and gear up. You have two minutes to brush your teeth and put on your makeup." She orders.

"A mission?" Jill asks excitedly.

Kira nods.

Without saying anything more, everybody jumps up from the table.

After brushing his teeth Chris goes to his room where he picks up a large duffle bag.

Inside it is his gear which he puts on as quickly as possible.

A white tank top with camo pants and a black sweater. Then a tactical vest followed by a series of strange wrist devices.

Finally he puts on a strange grey helmet. The helmet clicks into the collar of his vest using strange sockets.

At the front of the helmet is a transparent visor.

After touching a few buttons on his left wrist device the visor turns black.

He touches a few more buttons which cause the tactical vest and helmet to change to different camo patterns before he finally turns them back to normal.

Suddenly there's a knock on his door.

Opening it he sees that it's a woman dressed similarly to him. Except she has a red cross on each shoulder.

"You good?" The familiar voice of Eve asks him.

"All good. Sinking HUDs now." He replies pressing even more buttons.

"Radar. Ammo counter. Crosshairs. Physical condition. Squad condition and stim supply. Everything is perfect." She responds.

The two then go to the living room where the rest of the squad are already waiting. Some are fiddling with similar wrist devices, although that seems to he the only tech they have that's similar to that of Chris and Eve.

"I don't get why we have to wear this crap." Sam asks with a grunt.

"Because the higher ups told us to." Kira responds.

"If you want, I can show you how to use it." Eve offers.

Everyone then turn to look at Chris and Eve.

Melissa suddenly whistles.

"That is some serious tech." She comments.

"It's what we used back in Civ Sec." Chris responds.

"Why would a security guard need gear like that." Sam asks. She sounds very sceptical.

"Who said we were security guards?" Chris asks.

Sam is about to respond when Kira steps in between them.

"Enough you two. We have a job to do. Let's get going."

In response everyone heads out.

As he leaves the building Chris can't help but feel the pressure from the footprints he's walking in.

It's not like he's trying to live up to someone's expectations. But his job would definitely be easier if he got along with his colleagues.
