When finally you had settled enough to work your vocal cords into sounds and words and finally into a sentence, you asked of the past, what had happened, and how you came to be here.
The voices you heard were unfamiliar. It didn't sound like your step mother; it didn't sound like your father; it didn't sound like your older sister. Only nurses responded, but even their vague stories of your travel here were perplexing.
They said a man had brought you in. They asked who he was, what his relation was to you, but he simply kept repeating to help you. Noble, perhaps.. They went on to explain that by the time they had rushed you away into an operation room and came back to gather more information, the man had left. No name, no address, no story of what had happened to you.
You can recall now the walk down the alley and the fateful decision to peep into someone's window. Was it the same man that had been startled, curious, or enraged by your presence, that had brought you in? And if so.. Or even if it was a stranger that had found you lying mangled in the alley.. Why did they choose to remain anonymous? Mysterious?
Why did they save you? Why did they leave so abruptly? What were their motives?
"You have a visitor, however."
"What?"
The last attending nurse shuffled out of the room and held the door for a much lighter set of feet to tread inside. The door slid closed, the nurse disappeared down the hall, and the visitor seated themselves in a chair on the far side of the room.
"Well. This complicates things a bit, don't you think?
It is your room mate.
"What do you mean? What are you doing here?"
"I mean... Now we'll have to explain a few things to you a bit.... prematurely. And I'm here to do just that."
"We?"
The door slid open once again and a long stride walked in, the steps deceptively light for the weight they carried.
"We." A deeper voice, a new voice.... An oddly familiar voice.
It is the man who brought you in. It is the man who could perhaps be placed largely responsible for your fall. You don't know how you know, but you know.
Do you...
