It's your last cigarette.
You toss the empty box into a nearby dumpster as you light up. You get your nicotine fix and you're beginning to feel that relaxation you need to sleep.
But just for a moment.
Down the way, a fight between two men rolls into the alley. A third character steps in and breaks it up, and the peacemaker and one man skulk off to go be lowly elsewhere.
The remaining man, however, glances down the alley at you. It looked at first like he was going to run down the alley, but then he seemed deterred when he saw you there, puffing at your cigarette. It was only as he turned away that you realize he carried a knife in his white knuckle grip.
