River Runner

It's close to ten now as you slow to a walk across the park river bridge. The park itself is rather sparse this morning.

Odd, you think, considering it's a relatively cool summer morning for once. Normally, temperatures like this would fill the park with people.

Cool air rolls off of the deep, blue river, and settles on the bridge where you stand. It is so refreshing, you can't help but to put your hands on the wooden railings and lean as far out over the rushing water as you can.

The moist breath of the river is thick and cool, and you're all too happy too draw it in.

Your eyes are drawn to the rising bubbles and obsidian glaze of the water running so close to the bridge: overflowing.

You here a rapid set of footsteps sprinting past, and think nothing of it; just another morning runner passing by.

And then they return. Running just as fast. That same tip top tip top sound of their fast paced run.

This time, you turn to see the figure as they pass you by. You only see their loose black sweats and a black sweater, the hood up.

Who knows, maybe they dropped something.

You take another deep sigh, another moment to appreciate the river, and then you decide that you'll be off to continue your run.

The hollow sound of your footsteps on the bridge becomes muted when your feet begin to thud against the packed soil of the park's forest path.

Tip top tip top tip top

They're running backn once more.

You turn to look, determined to see their face this time, but there is no such luck.

They're hands move from the regular jogging position to a type of strong point, a central hold, and they drive into you with their entire body, their shoulder and elbow stabbing at you fist.

You stagger off the path, tumble though the hill of bushes, and into the thick tree line.

They are right behind you.

They are on top of you.

You are pinned.

"Be my sniper,"  they whisper in threatening desperation.

Do you...
