Desperately Falling

Time slows so much in that moment it may as well have stopped. You grasp desperately at the rungs, brushing the metal just out of reach with the very tips of your fingernails.

Furhter, and further; you keep drifting away from the ladder as you continue to plummet to the ground.

Until one fatal swipe. You catch the rung with crook of your hand, not enough to stop yourself, but enough to change your trajectory on your journey to the alley street below.

You happen to land on your lower back, almost sitting up. The impact swings your head back against the asphalt, embedding bits of gravel and glass under your skin.

Your skull cracks. Your brain swells. You're dead in a matter of seconds.
